I will be going home soon, and wanted to bring some extra AR/M4 mags along with me.  I know that they would have to go in checked luggage, but according to TSA's guidelines they need to be secured in a box.  That seems a bit ridiculous, what, they want me to claim them at the counter too?  Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Have you considered just shipping em to yourself?  Screw the TSA it's not like it's a firearm.

I would just get a US Mail Flat Rate box at the post office and ship them to yourself.

Ups for sure.  Insure if over $100.

Firearm magazines and ammunition clips must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm.

TSA Firearm Guidelines

Shrug. Follow the rules.

ETA: I usually carry two mags with me, and put them in a mag carrier. I have never had an issue, but technically it is against the rules.

Mags? Nope.  Only guns.

What I had in question mainly was that if they had to be locked in a box, or just taped up.  I had considered mailing them to myself, but wasn't sure of the legality of doing so since I'd be shipping them to Maryland.

If you ship them, insure it for sure. Way too much theft in the mail system lately.

If he puts it in checked baggage properly, how exactly is he "dust"?

I'd just ship them, the TSA is full of fuck even if you do follow the rules perfectly.

I'm looking at them now, just a bunch of extra magazines I've acquired from m4 ranges over time.  Completely dry.
