I think you should expect to find your ass in deep doo doo.  What you did is something a gun owner should never do, IMO.  In effect, you threatened the guy with a gun just to scare him and look tough, while your life (nor the life of anybody else) was absolutely NOT in danger.

Good luck...

Agree. If you felt threatened by his advance, remember it was you that put yourself in the situation. You should have called the cops and let them handle it. They get paid to deal with loud drunk people. They are generally pretty good at it (lots of practice). When you are armed you should make every effort to avoid confrontation especially with drunks who tend to be irrational and show poor judgement. Guns are for life and death situations. A loud drunk is hardly that but who knows what it can escalate into once a firearm is introduced into the situation? What would you have done with that pistol if the sight of it had left him unimpressed? Would you have been forced to shoot him? That would be bad, very bad for you.

I hate to tell you, but I think you're screwed.

So the guy gives you the finger and raises his arm at you?  That doesn't constitute immediate danger of grave physical harm or death.  Plus, if you were only one step outside your door, going back inside was definitely an option at that point.

You overreacted by drawing your pistol in this situation, and you'll probably end up paying for it.

Couple of things I don't understand here -
Where in Wisconsin are you located?
Did the cops just write you a ticket for the DC and give you until 11/11/02 to pay or is the court appearance mandatory?

First of all, if I were you, I wouldn't have done anything so shit-fire stupid in the first place.  You think just because you got the gat, that you got all the power?  That shit only works in the movies (sometimes).  What you've done is add another blurb in the newspapers for the anti-gun forces to clip out and bring up at the next concealed carry hearing.  Maybe the next time you see your Glock it'll be on TV - Jim Doyle will be tossing it into a smelter during his new campaign to rid the streets of crime guns.

Anyway, now that I'm done bitching, I'd get a lawyer to explain, somehow, that you were concerned for the safety of the two wandering souls in front of your house and that's what caused you to investigate the situation before you called the police.  You were armed due to the fact of the gripping fear you felt over the prospect of stepping outside your domicile in the middle of the night.  This fear you experienced can be directly related to an experience you either had or had related to you regarding an act of uninstigated and potentially deadly assault committed upon you or someone you know by drunk persons.

You never, ever had any intention of hurting anybody.  This should be evident to anyone as you purposefully left the chamber in the gun safely unloaded, and only chose to charge the weapon after one of the brawlers in front of your home lurched forward towards you and verbally communicated a threat.

Now, with the passing of time and the benefit of hindsight, there's no way in hell something like this could ever happen again.  Unfortunately that night you didn't have the benefit of time or hindsight as things unfolded at such an unbelievably fast pace.  You are truly remorseful for the inconvenience you've caused your friendly local law enforcement and the court.  You also plan to move away very soon.

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Not a bad idea, but I doubt I'd mention it in court!
