| Ok this is probably an easy one for you guys but my google foo never found what I was looking for. After my ac stops running (varies in times but usually 5 or so minutes) a clicking/popping sound sometimes starts in the outside unit. It is a Rheem heat pump set up about 6 years old. The noise is not electrical or coming from compressor. As far as I can pinpoint it is coming from inside the coils and varies greatly from a few small clicks to a bunch that sound like the thing is falling apart. |
| Fan is shut off and noise does not come from around motor. I say it's pretty loud sometimes and when the noise happens I can feel it when touching the coil fins. It was loud enough to wake me up from a little nap with my 1 1/2 year old earlier. The unit sits right outside window. |
