I see people using it and more times than not it seems that the user is jealous of someone else's gear or training.   Just curious why it's used so often.

It is primarily the use of HSLD gear on a gun that either A) Never actually gets used or B) is unsuited for the equipment.

It is a way to mock the gear queers and posers, the wanna-be operators etc.

Agreed, also it seems to be used mostly by the "KISS" people in an elitist way.

It's for kit that people drive. Sometimes they run it instead.

Tactical gear/clothing that people low speed/ high drag operators wear to look impressive. For instance: Me wearing 501 pants, a Geiselle shirt, combat boots, wrap around sunglasses and several black pouches on my belt. Pants should be bloused.
Or, a DPMS Patrolman Carbine with an ACOG, BUIS, combo forward grip/flashlight holder/bipod with a single point sling, a free float hand guard and Vortex flash hider. Its still just a $600.00 rifle.

I get the meaning, but I've never cared to talk about someone like that. I might think it, but I don't think it is right to group people like that or make fun of them.

I think it is pretty cool that people admire the military enough to copy the look. And there are civilians who have never served who have an impressive understanding
of the military.

Now if you start telling me lies about how you saved the day in "the stan".........

Tacticool (adjective derived from the word "tactical." )

1. Describes an item that is functional and aesthetically pleasing.

2. Describes a person whose fashion choices are centered around functional and aesthetically pleasing clothing items.

3. A derogatory term used to describe a person or thing that places more emphasis on form than function.

That's how I view it anyways.

I kind of agree with you. Some people use a thumb over grip just because they've seen it done:

Also a stupid grip:

So what's a guy to do?

The tactical coffee pot on the rail of your AR. Basically anything added to a rifle that looks both tactical and cool, however is on a range gun so will never be used as intended. EX - flashlights on a benchrest gun, thermal sights on a gun only shot during daylight hours, a suppressor on a safe queen, an eotech on a GSG, etc.

This. ^^^

IMHO, a term used here primarily by closeted Fudds and/or hypocrites.

IOW, "What I have is tactical/practical, but what you have is tacticool/foolish."
