So if you have say, a tablet with BT, what all can you stream from your smartphone to it?

A commercial for a tablet basically said you could stream movies and "keep in touch with friends" while driving down the road (it showed a passenger either texting, checking email, or Facebook).

I've streamed audio to my car's radio a hundred times, but I didn't think you could stream movies, videos, text, internet, email, etc., from your smartphone to a tablet without tethering.

What am I missing?

Tablets can have wifi, Bluetooth and cellular.

I run foxfi on my phone as a hot spot so that's my Internet connection for everything. Watch your data usage.

FoxFi on AT&T isn't in amazon app store, I see a $7.95 version, but have read it has issues. Anyone know about FoxFi and At&T I have read the forums online.

Teathering via cable is the best, then hot spot and then bluetooth.  grab PDAnet of the web and try it out for a few days.  if you like it,buy it. i am usually cheap and look for free versions of software, but it works so well i ponied up to buy it

The tablet that advertised this was a Lenovo, and it doesn't have cellular. As for a cable connection, I have an iPhone 5 - are you talking about hooking it to the tablet via the charging/USB cable? haven't tried that before.

I'll look at PDAnet and see if that works for me. Thanks.

ETA: PDAnet for the iPhone requires it to be jailbroken, and I know AT&T frowns big time on tethering.

Without a tether, I'll bet you can't even use the tablet as a GPS nav device (?) (I'm guessing it needs an internet connection to do that.)

Jail break it and install it. its not a big deal and its reversible. With pda  net, you can choose it to be wired, or hot spot.  also has a hide method that supposedly keeps the provider from finding out.

BTW, i am posting this on my laptop teathered to my iphone hot spot  via pda net now.
