Looking for a small revolver, I don't think I will stray from Smith, definitely not a Taurus.

I'm a S&W guy, but I carry a Ruger LCR. The trigger and the ergos pretty much smoke those of the J-frame.

I carry a M&P 360 as well, I like it a lot.  It is fun to shoot with .38 SPL and +P, .357 mag is pretty snappy.  The XS front sight is a lot better than my gf's non M&P .38.  The trigger is also awesome shooting single action.  DA takes some practice.

I am not a big fan of hammer-less, but I understand not wanting to snag the hammer.

Another question is caliber...

If you just want a .38spc, S&W is okay. If you want .357mag, Ruger is by far the better bet.

The price difference between a .38 &.357 LCR is ~$20. For the J frames, the difference much wider.

I'd pick one of the J-Frame models with adjustable sights, and of course, they would be pre-lock models.

ETA: I'd install adjustable tritium sights.

I would like a small snubbie for summer conceal carry, I dont like any of the small pistols, lcl, kahr etc.

I would like to go 357 so I can carry that and target shoot with 38.

Does that help?

Can someone explain the lock thing to me on Smith's?

The internal lock that locks up the gun with a key. It is on the side above the cylinder release.

ETA: .357 is highly overrated for small frame snub use.

I went with a LCR 357 because I reload 357 and I can feed it light practice loads without resetting my dies. The ability to shoot both calibers is just a bonus.

In reality, shooting .357mag in anything with a barrel shorter than 4" is a bit pointless. You get a lot of flash and recoil, but you don't get any real gain in velocity, which is the whole point behind .357mag.

Even though I practice with .357mag, my carry ammo is Remington 38spc +P 158gr LSWCHP.

442/642 no lock with CTC grips. Get a trigger job and a tritium insert if you feel the need to class it up.

There's just no point in going lighter than an Airweight. I ran a box of 158 grain +P thru mine this morning and I have blister and a big scuffed red patch in the web of my hand. The few extra ounces aren't worth the money or the pain.

as far as the 38/357 debate.  38+p is sufficiently unpleasant to shoot for me.  Do not see the need to add cost and weight to my edc.

Yes, but it is larger. I was disappointed in the size as I was only focusing on the lighter weight. The J-frame is a tad easier to conceal but is a little more obvious with gravity.

That problem has a solution.

That grip isn't quite as nice at the range, but it slims the profile of the gun and it carries much better.

I need to check that out but the LCR is 6.5" long and the 442 is less at 6.3" long. Not sure about width but should be less on the LCR due to lightened cylinder. Agree trigger is nice and mine has the front XS night sight.

My dad fucked up a 25 year old taurus snub nose shooting +P, and taurus fixed it for free despite the fact he was perfectly honest about his retardedness. So they obviously have some pretty good customer service. I hate their triggers though.

The Ruger LCR is pretty cool, but I found it to be a bit bigger than the j frames I was also looking at.

I bought a 638. It's a handful with +P. If you are recoil averse get the steel frame version. This one has a remarkably good double action trigger pull for a cheap revolver. It's sold me on smith and wesson in the future (I like handgun hunting and see a 25, 29 or 460 in my future).

We had a lcr for a bit but in a fast draw and fire 5 shot string i was alwasy short stroking the stigger and skipping a cylinder so once i read its a common thing it was out the door, If im limiting myself to 5rds I want all 5 rds
