Leaving today: Tell me about anytime that you quit your job on unfavorable circumstances, what did you do on your way out?

When I was 18, I quit my job as a prep cook.  I said I was taking the garbage out........and I left it sitting in front of the dumpster.  I didn't even put it inside.  Thug life.

Then I kept walking, and never went back.

I maintained my dignity and didn't do something stupid and/or childish ..... ?

Stepped to the open door out on our docks, loosened up my tie to catch a glimpse of a beautiful sunrise. Looked around at what my life had become working seven days a week for 13-17 hours a day with no lunch, no breaks on salary for a Fortune 500 company.

Went to the nearest computer and typed, "I quit"

Walked away into that sunrise and went out on a 3.5 month solo backpacking and paddling trip. Never looked back.

That might have cost me my last paycheck or invited either cops or mobsters into my life.

Tomorrow is my official last day, though I'm on annual leave today and tomorrow .

I would never go back (state job ), but am pleased that they (and all my previous employers) told me I could come back if I ever wanted to.

Oh, and the job I'm starting on Monday is a job I left for what I though would be greener grass about 10 years ago.  They called me out of the blue with an offer I couldn't refuse.

I said "I'm giving my 2-day notice, I'm leaving 2-day."

If you work where you have your own office with a real door you can always put an appropriate message on the back of the door. You will be amazed at how long it may stay there if no one ever closes it once they go in!! LOL

I put a curse on the building and all employees, present and future.

It seems to be working quite well.

Walked away.  God gives payback (and I've seen this happen many times).

I walked out on a security company, after they left me on post for 36 hours with no relief two weekends in a row because my dark skinned brethren were too busy partying.  They lost the contract when the client found out the post was abandoned from Sunday noon when I got pissed and left because nobody would answer their goddamn phones, till my supervisor finally got off his fat ass and came to work Monday at 9AM.

I was unemployed for two whole hours.  Started a new job Monday morning.

Spray painted "EAT PUSSY" in huge letters on the side of the building.

Used to drive a wrecker/pump gas for a guy.  Anyway, he had a drunk manager that got in my face and shoved me I shoved him
back.  Next day the boss calls me in tells me that I was going to get stuck on graveyards or quit.  So I walked.

About two weeks later the manager guy manages to roll over one of his wreckers.  By then I had taken a few weeks off fishing and
got a job and laughed my way to the bank..

The end.

I have been there

My $0.02 - Keep it classy. Say your goodbyes to people you will miss. Ignore those you will be glad to be rid of. Don't do anything immature. That kinda behavior only validates the opinions of those who were against you and leaves an impression on others that may come back to haunt you some day.

Remember that every exit also opens a door to new opportunities.

A few years ago I was informed the company I worked for was closing down, but they needed my help leading with the shut down. Promised a big bonus, when I found out it was $100 I interviewed for another job during my lunch break and got the offer over the phone a day or two later while at work. I walked into the office and told them I quit in thirty minutes (end of my shift).

My friend, who was my boss at the time still harps that it was "job" abandonment that I left like that, way I see it is he had already terminated me, I was just an important piece on his board to lose.

Not me, but the person I replaced went out with a chuckle.

Her resignation letter said, "Just because you serve up shit sandwiches doesn't mean I have to eat them."
