I have an interview with Xbox team and i fit the job description very well, except for being a hardcore gamer. I like all the shooter games and halo series. But, I'm not spending more than 5 hour a week on the consule and occasional netflix etc. So I'd like some creative input regarding the xbox platform and come to the table with thoughts on Xbox as an advertising platform. What features you really like and think would integrate with brands( Coca Cola, Toyota, Wal-Mart...etc)
Thanks GD. |

You can take the advertising platform part and shove it out the window. This. But, if it's really necessary: 1. Mountain Dew 2. Cheetos 3. Mountain Dew as recyclable piss bottles - so it's both gamer-friendly AND environmentally sound. Win Win. Also, good luck at the interview - it makes for a long day, unless it's an A Dash job, which makes for a long half-day of interviews. (I worked there for ten years, what seems like an eternity ago) |

I've always thought they should have a better file sharing system.
For example, you should be able to use the wireless receiver in xbox to stream movies that are saved on your computer. If they did that, the apple TV would be completely useless and they would dominate that market. Right now, I have an apple TV on every TV i own. I have a few hundred movie files shared on my computer that I have added to itunes. The apple TV has a processor that allows it to play those files through the network. Xbox has a much better processing capacity and built in memory, it would be an easy programming feat. You should be able to "log into" your computer through the network using some built in software and choose movie files that you want to stream through your network... Hope this helps! Edit: Just noticed your advertising specification. You could get IMDB to advertise on the idea above so that you could automatically download/link metadata files (so you can see the movie pictures). |

Quoted: I've played a game that had billboards in it, Mercenaries 2 I think, and the billboards had real adds on them. You could blow them up in many hilarious ways though so that kinda made up for it.I don't want advertising slipped into a product I paid for. Going to give those suckers away for free? Sure, I'll watch a commercial. No ads in paid for products please, and also none of that always online crap they are talking about doing |

I'm tired of holding the bag between my ankles. MtDew bottle do fill up ya know. |

If I see any more advertising in the games I play, I will dump my console out a window. I get enough advertising on my dashboard. I've been a HARDCORE gamer on the xbox system since the very beginning. I am also a Xbox live ambassador and work on the play test team from time to time. The bullshit advertising has got to stop. I pay for the games, the console and XBL service. It isnt youtube. |

That problem is simple: Either: 1. Multiple Bottles, or 2. Pour it out the window. If you're in a basement, and can't do option 2, option 1 works just as well. Just make sure your mom only takes the FULL bottles to the garbage, and not the empties. |

Wow. Not going the way I expected. Let me put it this way.... if the advertising integration can provide you a use or a utility would you be more inclined to look upon it more favorably? What would that have to look like? I'd say stick it to the man too! but a married father of 2 little girls can't exactly do that especially since I've been out of work since February. I need to get a job. |

I've already heard some things about the next gen that make me not want it ETA: Netflix should be streamable without a gold account. I am no fan of the PS3 but it's netflix interface and set up is way better than the xbox interface by leaps and bounds |

As a tester or other work?
I have various family members and friends who work in redmond. Beautiful campus. As for actual advice... thoughts on Xbox as an advertising platform.
As much as I hate the BS advertising, it would be nice to see advertising catered to the user and what they like. I don't know much about how advertising or programming works but certain ads work based on viewing history and likes. If I watch car related videos on youtube, I get ford or mobil 1 ads on the side as an example. This would be nice for someone who plays racing sims. Also, people who do gaming reviews and related products on youtube...whore THE FUCK out of those guys. I buy most of my games and DLC content based off of their videos, not the companies. |
|
If Microsoft wants to fuck their customers with advertising on the xbox which I'm sure they will, perhaps they should deliver it as a "Free" XBL service. I mean, it's pretty fucking stupid to have to pay to play online/with friends. Give free players an advertisement-packed way to play online? |

In fact, use the word "content" a thousand times during the interview, even when inappropriate. MS interviews can be.. interesting. |

I need to get a job. It would have to look like a free system and free games. NASCAR drivers don't really love Tide so much they have a sticker made for their hood, its because they didn't have to put in on that car. I dont even have the dealership decal on my trunk because they didn't give me that car, I paid for it and they don't get free advertising out of me. I don't want to deal with ads. I don't want to pay for the privilege to watch commercials. This is what pissed me off to no end about satellite radio, and why I don't have it anymore. Good concept turned to garbage. |

Seriously, the constant advertisements made giving up an Xbox, in favor of a PS3 much easier. That and i couldnt justify paying to play on the internet. |
