Make a stop at a local gun shop.
Here are some prices to make you go WTF!?!?!?!

GSG Stg44 - $899.95 - but by golly it comes with a genuine wood box and ONE mag.
Remington 1903A3(refinished) - $1300
1898 US Krag rifle(refinished)(badly) - $2900  Yep you're reading that correctly.
A Bubba hack job 1903 for only $1000 - They had to revive me after seeing that one.
S&W M&P 22 auto-pistol - only $589.00 - it also comes with only one mag.
Siaga 12ga - $2000
I raffed and FO'ed out of there. I am sure glad I found the Internets.

I like to support local business but not when they are out to rip me off.

Back in Jan and Feb my LGS was selling ROMAKS for $1400 at gun shows. Don't know if they actually succeeded or not, but THAT was the price.

A good friend of mine owns the LGS that I go to...  He has not raised his profit margins at all since the first of the year, but his dealer costs have really gone up.

There's an LGS in Salem OR, and LAST panic [2008....those where the days hey?] the owner had a sorry looking FrankenMaster for only $1500.00.
I was tempted to go back last Jan, to see if was still on the wall, and what he wanted for it this time around.

My LGS charges 10% over his cost. He'll give you a copy of his invoice (from Ellet Bros).

Unfortunately, this has resulted in me spending way too much money in his store over the last two years.

Doncha know how the game is played?

You gotta stand around for a few hours, relating stories of your Space Shuttle Doorgunner time spent.

THEN, they'll give you "the special deal", cause they like you.   That Saiga-12 for $2000?   No son, not for you, you kept our space vehicles safe, so for you, $1900, no, wait, $1850 and a box of .410 to go with it!

Mine had a Tavor for $1995. I was impressed.

For some reason, the prices at mine have actually gone down in the last year.  They opened a new storefront so maybe that helps the bottom line/price points, but they have a constant stream of new guns and firearms related gear walking out of the door.  I do what I can to help

sell nothing or sell at reasonable prices, hmmm. watching  few gunshops here in town, the ones with reasonable prices are selling just fine, others not so much

Except most of the places I buy on the internet are companies.. Not a "guy" in his basement.

My LGS gets my NFA transfers and that's about it.

Sorry but selling for 25%+ more than what I can get in 5 days results in me not buying from you. That doesn't even factor in the tax. Once in awhile if I find something reasonable I will buy.

The internet company also sells in enough volume that they can afford to offer prices that the small LGS can't.
The reality of the net over the last 20 years is that more people expect wholesale prices when they buy a gun because they see dealer prices listed and think that's what they should pay for retail.

I was in a place today, small shop in a small town. The owner was bragging loudly that he refused to price gouge and wasn't charging a penny more than fair even if it means he takes a loss, which he assured me he was on the .22lr he had in stock.

He had several boxes of Remington Thunderbolts for only $20, and he was proud as punch to be selling them so cheap. Did I mention that these were the fifty round boxes, not the 500 round bricks? Yeah, $20 for fifty fairly low end 22lr, I imagine he is loosing his shirt on that deal.

Evolve or die

I am not trying to be a dick and LGS do serve a purpose for people that want to look and feel a weapon before purchasing(and I agree if your browsing to buy you should buy from the LGS).

I just dont agree with paying more because the company is a local physical storefront.

The place I have been shopping for the last 4 years didn't put up "panic prices". I bought another gun from them 3 weeks ago and will continue to shop there. I'll use the LGS's that raised prices to fondle/hold the goodies then go buy from the other LGS, on-line or big box store.

BTW, I have nothing against them raising prices, just like they shouldn't mind if I shop elsewhere.
