I've only seen pictures, going to pick the dog up at midnight. I've been in need of a good catch dog for hog hunting as my pack is made solely up of Blackmouth Curs and one Catahoula Cur.
They are great for tracking, herding, and working hogs, but do not have the "catch and hold" instinct I am needing to take the hogs live. I am meeting the couple at midnight and will post pics when I get the dog home. My eight year old girl is as excited as I am. Any tips or suggestions? |

Good for you...looking forward to pics What's the reason you are picking up a dog at midnight? ![]() Dirty deeds are done dirt cheap at midnight. And the couple who owns it are traveling through my area heading home about that time. Saves us both another drive. |

I admit I have a negative view of pitbulls, but a puppy (regardles of breed) can be trained. This might have been answered, but is it a full grown dog? I personally would not want a pitbull that is a mature dog trained by someone I don't know |

get good home owners insurance and other insurance. My neighbor didn't have enough so now I have his two cars. All because his pit bull managed to jump a 9 foot fence and kill one of my show horses. I took that monkey to the cleaners. BTW, the pit was put down on the spot.
yeah im biased and think they should be outlawed or at least fair game to kill at random after I had a buddy of mine's kid loose his face to one. yeah and the owner of that pit said, "he was the friendliest dog and would never hurt a fly". im off my rant, carry on |

They're great dogs if they're raised right, I have 2 and they're awesome. How old is it? This. I have two as well and they are both great dogs. I have 3 kids too and all of their digits are intact. If you get the puppy young and take time to raise it right you will find the APBT to be one of the most intelligent breeds around. ETA: Spelling |

All pit bulls are not created equal. Hopefully the pup has the drive to do the work you want her to do.
When you pick her up see if she is confident. Take a piece of burlap sack with you and shake it on the floor near her. If she goes after it and latches on she might have what it takes. Make sure she "wins" and pulls the sack away from you too. How are her hips? How are her mom and dads hips? Working dogs are cool, good luck. Screw the haters, just watch the dog around kids and small animals. |

gota love all these "train it right" crap. yes you can train a dog but the training has to always be "on" they are animals and are NOT HUMANS. they have instincts that will kick in and over come all training under certain circumstances ...with dogs the only true way to avoid this is to "get the right dog" pit bulls have a reputation for a reason...now its true that Golden retrievers bit more people every year then any other dog , but they are also the most numerous family pet...they are also much easier to disengage from their focal point......unlike pits. . Now don't take my word for it, I'm no dog expert but i have 2 separate scars on my back from two different attacks I experienced as a kid, both from loving family dogs that never bit anyone. Why you might ask did they attack me.....because i limp (missing a leg) and its instinct for dogs to attack wounded prey. Both times the dogs were easily pulled off me, but if either of those attacks were from a Pit (or rotty ) my chances of being mauled or dead would been much higher. . As for the OP's requirements...yes a pit would seem to fit the bill.......but id say your stupid considering your 8yr old daughter her safety should be paramount. . my neighbor has a very nice pit bull...her name is smooch....i kinda like her very loyal even to my kids (who shes kinda grown up around) but im never with out a pistol (and a knife) on my hip...and she is one reason. |

She has amazing drive, her brother is toy retarded. Zero drive, won't even play with treat dispensing toys. |

Most dog trainers i have spoken to will tell you never to let a dog win in a game of tug-o-war That's because most people don't play tug properly. You should allow the dog to "win" every now and then, but it should not be allowed to take off with the toy. When I play tug with my dog, she always gets to "win" at some point. What you want them to do when they win though is come right back to continue playing. This makes the game fun for the dog, as well as teaches them that the fun happens when they're with you. This video shows what I'm talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsWnL4VWZNg |

Ever use your Curs like Tony Tebbe uses Gunner to decoy coyotes? Never have. I've heard of it though. I hunt deer, turkeys, squirrels, hogs. I don't have time for coyotes. |
