[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Gary, IN (Page 1 of 2)

| Buddy is moving there to play baseball. I'm looking around on google streetview, and I wouldn't drive through the place let alone reside there for any length of time. I don't think he has a CCW permit, but I think he will need one. Like, yesterday. Anyone ever been there? |
|
He doesn't have to live in Gary to play ball there does he? I suggest never living IN Gary....he would be better off down the road in Hammond, Schererville/Merriville and surrounding areas. Cabelas in Hammond makes this a no brainer. Stay the F*ck out of Gary...When Shitcago flushes....it ends up in Gary! Yep ,get a lifetime permit ASAP, before it iss no longer available. |

MiLB/Independent leagues usually set up housing from what I hear. |

Down town Gary is rotted out (near the ball field) the homeless people don't even live there anymore. Most of the buildings are barred up and vacant. Gary is slowly moving South towards Merrillville as the neighborhoods crumble to he North. Portage has seen an uptick in crime, but infinitely better than Gary. I suggest he look at Portage, Chesterton, Hobart, Winfield, Valparaiso, and Crown Point as places to commute from. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
I live 2 towns over. There's only one good part of Gary... Miller Beach. You know it's the good part because they've been looking for a way to "secede" from Gary for years. ![]() Your friend would do well to look at Highland, Munster, Portage... Or really just about anywhere else. Edit: and the good news is that he'll have his CCW (LTCH) in hand within 10 days of application. |

He needs to search for government liquidation sales for an armored personnel carrier or an old M-1 Abrams. Hell, he could probably buy one on the corner of 5th and Broadway........ Really, he needs to look elsewhere for his residence. Gary used to be a great town years ago, but now its a huge shithole, almost bankrupt and littered with druggies, prostitutes and gangbangers. Watch the movie "Original Gangstas" starring Fred Williamson. That was 1996. |

Gary is a black dude that will rape you and they named the entire city after him, in his honor, for raping you, repeatedly. My wife's family used to live up by Crown Point, Indiana. Complete shithole also. Crown Point isn't a shithole, lame, but not a shithole. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

This Friday will be 10 weeks waiting on my renewal. |

This Friday will be 10 weeks waiting on my renewal. There's your problem... You should have done a lifetime permit Wen I applied around 2 years ago for my lifetime permit with electronic prints, it was in my mailbox in 10 days. They recently phased out paper prints, so the process is faster for everyone now. I don't know if the Great Obama Panic is at play though...

| I work for a telephone company that has some facilities there, and we regularly find bullet holes in the exterior of the building from random, inner-city gunfire. There are many stories from our techs where they were out working late and the local PD would park next to the telephone truck so that the pole-men wouldn't get mugged... |
my grandmother lived there most of her married life. my dad attended Lou Wallace high school there. They lived a block over from the Jackson family. My dad actually competed in a city- wide talent show (piano player) as a teen. He came in second to the Jackson kids.
My grandparents house was right next to Glenn Park (sp?). We went to visit at Christmas, thanksgiving, and the 4th of July for 25 years. It is a dump. I can remember that Broadway had more and more closed up stores each year. my little brother and I would count the boarded up stores each year and compare the numbers to the previous year. One Christmas, her neighbors house was accidentally the victim of a drive by shooting...Us kids thought it was firecrackers. As bad as it was, after my grandfather died, my grandmother lived in the same house, unmolested, for 4 years. The neighborhood watched out for "grandma" and made sure she was always safe. We knew her neighbors and they loved that little old white lady. |

And same thing - prints by L1 and all that. Was going to do lifetime, but there's a chance I might be moving out in a year ... And Gary?? Someone else nailed it - it's the Newark of the midwest. I'd much rather be in Detroit than Gary. |

There are so many good places to live in NW Indiana, why the hell would anyone choose to live in Gary? Dyer, Crown Point, St. John, and Hammond. Avoid Gary and East Chicago like the plague. |

I had a short stint as a 3rd shift armed guard for the utility company there. I also dated a smoking hot Puerto Rican broad that lived in Michael Jackson's old neighborhood. It's a shit hole, but no one ever fucked with me. I carried a 4" 686 back then. Hammond, Portage, and Lake Station suck too. |

My grandfather, a decorated WWII vet, set up in Gary after the war. Got married to my Grandmother and had kids. Gary in the late 40's was nice. Need a job? The steel mill was jobs a plenty.
Fast forward 20 years and some steel mills closed. I remember staying a night there when I was a kid, I remember gun shots often and I also remember a scream or two. My grandparents were robbed 6 times. I now know why he carried a pistol sticking out of his pants when we went to the grocery store. My Dad and Uncles finally moved them out of there. He died the next year. Must suck to watch a once great city decay into a wasteland in your lifetime especially after risking your life and fighting for your country. |
