For the past 4-5 months I have read multiple stories of arfcommers having purchased guns, ammo, supplies, etc. from various websites. Only to have their orders cancelled so that the products they purchased could be then sold for a higher price. Yeah, yeah, I understand how capitalism works, and sure, these companies should be free to do whatever they want to make a quicker bigger buck, and if people don't like it they can shop elsewhere, and so on, and so on. I get it. In May 2012, I placed an order for 1000 rounds of 5.56mm for what amounted to ~.20 cents per round. ($205 for 1000 rounds). The order went on backorder status. I was disappointed but I understand it happens. For the next 10 months I would get periodic e-mails asking if I wished to keep the order active. When the panic hit, and cost of ammo doubled, tripled, quadrupled,...I expected to get the dreaded "order cancellation" e-mail. But, this past Monday I got an "shipment notification" e-mail instead. And today the ammo was delivered. An acquaintance of mine told me they were foolish for NOT cancelling my order and taking advantage of the market opportunity to maximize their profits. Maybe. I have taken note of those companies that did that, and feel less than enthusiastic about doing business with them. On the other hand, Sportsmansguide.com has got a customer for LIFE. I expect that in the long run, they will likely make more money from my business for taking care of their customers this way, than those others companies will in the short term. Anyway...major kudos to Sportsmansguide.com. Note: I am not, nor have ever been, employed, connected, or affiliated with Sportsmansguide.com. Neither is anyone in my family, or my cat MeeMaw.

LOL. At least until you order TOO much ammo and they cancel your orders claiming you are buying to resell... SG has waaaay too many threads with lousy outcomes across the various gun boards, including this one, to even bother looking at their website or catalogs. |

Since November 2012, I've ordered several k of 5.56, .40 and 9mm through SG and despite the backorder, email confirmation about keeping the order or not, they have delivered every time at the before panic prices. They even accept the free shipping coupons and $10 off coupons. They're A ok in my book!
In fact also ordered some M855, in Jan, and they said it would be backordered until 1/2014 and I just checked and it's scheduled for shipment in 6/2013. In a way it sucks because I didn't want to pay for it until next year but I'm not complaining. |

I have never had a major problem with SG and the minor problems I have had they corrected to my satisfaction.
My $0.02 regarding dealing with SG; 1) Play their game for the best prices on a lot of stuff. I joined "The Club" (usually pays for itself on the first ammunition order) and I have their Visa Card (extra 2.5% discount + points for other purchases sometimes 4x) and always look for the coupon codes (there is always a $10 off coupon and quite often a free shipping coupon). 2) I only buy ammunition of known origin from them and I only buy genuine military or government surplus. Be careful of advertising language such as; "Mil-Style" or "Mil-Spec" or "just like the original". This is usually code for Chinese junk. 3) Read the fine print regarding the discount codes and other offers and tailor your order to maximize the savings. 4) IF you have a problem, be polite and persistent and it will likely be resolved to your satisfaction. |
