I have been looking at getting my first 1911. I have heard good things about the Range Officer and

found one today at Academy for $799.99. Fo or no fo?

Academy is usually about $100 high on handguns. Look elsewhere if you want a better deal.

Fo. It is a great 1911 and well worth the price. The only thing I don't like is that the front strap is not checkered. Other than that, no complaints.
ETA: The price at Academy is high. Keep looking, you can probably find one closer to $700 with not much effort.

I have a dumb question. I noticed that the sights are as basic as can be. Can they be changed?

Mine is my favorite 1911. Yes, sights can be changed. I put a fixed sight on mine. However they use a LPA sight cut so your limited on what you can put on them.

Yep, a great pistol, but you can find one at a better price, with patience.

If you want Novak sights, consider a Ruger.
