Watching the Hidtory Channel this afternoon because, well, I have no life and I get in too much trouble hanging around the gun shop... So, is Gunny on Mail Call a former Marine or does he just play one on TV? With Basic, I weep for the future of our armed forces. That Michelle Boatner chic is cute, and I wouldn't mind "bayoneting" her in a little "Close Quarter Battle," would they actually let someone like that graduate basic? |

I am so looking forward to basic in January- even an old man (25) like me looks to have an easy time of it. Real summer camp- looks more and more like what fun times we had back in my ROTC days. I pray to GOD there is some better training at AIT though should I ever have to go into combat... Even the obsticle course isnt scary anymore.... As for Boatner- heh, more and more the Army supplies its grunts with GI issue poontang. My sophomore of college they sent me to nine weeks of Kamp Kiddie in Ft.Knox for a 'basic' introduction to 'basic training'. It looked a little like what I expected, but all in all the worst part of it was my girl back home dumping me and moving in with a lesbo two weeks after I got there. Fear not, probably 40% of my platoon were female, and half of those were single AND attractive. Needless to say I added to my roster of strange places to have excercised 'bayonet drills'. After four weeks of a lack of recreational activities, even the most frigid of these 'lady soldiers' was going through whatever women have to equate to our blue balls. An easier mark was NOT to be found on the rifle range. One of the guys and a female in another platoon got sent home for rutting in the bushes during our field excercises at the end of the course. Every week or so there were announcements that "THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTLY NO TOLERANCE FOR MALES FOUND IN THE FEMALE CADET BAY, AND FEMALES FOUND IN THE MALE CADET BAY AFTER LIGHTS OUT, AND ESPECIALLY NOT IN WALL LOCKERS, TOGATHER". Was this a good introduction to Army life? Well, our LT was boning the female LT, and all of our female Sgts dressed like major tramps when not in uniform, so I'd say it probably was. To echo HiramRanger, I too weep for the future of our armed forces, especially being part of it. Ryan |

Before basic was a show on the history channel, it was some web based army propaganda you could watch from the army website. So I'm assuming it makes it all look much more "fun" than it is. I also wouldn't be surprised if they purposefully followed a bunch of sissies around so sissies that are thinking of joining would get the idea that its easy. I've read a few diaries online of other peoples basic experiences who weren't part of a TV show and it sounds completely different. And Boatner... well... agreed [8D] I can only hope there are more girls like that when I join the Army. |

dskeet- Been working on where I want to be since I was 18, figured college educated was the best way to go in, now I'm just waiting for my paperwork and everything to be processed. I realy hate to tell you but it aint' all propaganda. A brother in law of mine is a real drill at Ft.Lost-in-The-Woods Mo. and from what he says, its all been sissy-fied. He says those kids on the History Channel are an example of a few who *arnt* ate up like a soup sandwich. I think the only place you'll realy get away from that is if you go into the Marines. And even then it aint what it used to be. I decided Army because I'd rathar be a dumb grunt than a sack of cannon fodder on two legs. Not saying the Marines arnt brave, but my daddy always told me never jump into a foxhole with someone braver 'n you are, and most Marines are that... |
