Is it a "straw purchase" when the 3rd party is not a prohibited person?
If so, how does one give a long gun as a gift? |
|
Im still reading through it myself. Seems a bit murky, as usual ETA - that link was useless, didn't tell me anything i didn't already know, sorry op |

Is it a "straw purchase" when the 3rd party is not a prohibited person? If so, how does one give a long gun as a gift? If it is a legitimate gift, it is perfectly legal. Some dealers are a (1) a bit sensitive on the subject, or (2) don't know the law very well and are under the misimpression that you cannot buy a gun to use as a gift. In either case, it is not uncommon for a dealer to refuse to sell a gun to someone who plans to use the gun as a gift. So what you do is you pick out the gun, fill out the 4473 just like you're buying it for your self, and KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT about the gun being a gift. |

The ATF does a good job of scaring dealers on straw purchases, Be aware of that and proceed accordingly. |
