Internet uses DSL. Modem and router is on 2nd story. Downstairs I have a TV that is linked to
the router (WiFi) and in that room is a treadmill. We watch netflix anytime with no problem,

but when the treadmill is used within about 2 minutes the modem is kicked off the internet.

"internet" and "dsl" lights on modem go out and it takes a few minutes to come back on.

Why would the treadmill kick off the modem? At first I thought it was the phone in that

room as it is connected to the lines. I changed that out to a remote handset, but still the

problem happens. Wat up wit dat?

Ground the treadmill

Check you router access points and look for suspicious police or FBI surveillance van in neighborhood.

The treadmill may be putting off a lot of AC noise. If you have an old radio you could turn it to a low AM station and turn the treadmill on. If its putting out AC noise you should be able to hear it quite noticeably on the radio.
I've seen a bad TV knock out DSL for a whole block. You could hear a shit ton of noise with a little AM radio and it would go quite when he turned the TV off.

Our treadmill will thrash the entire range of frequencies from about 0-80 MHz. If I recall correctly DSL uses a range around 40 MHz.

Ok thanks. I had no idea it put out that much interference and power. I figured
some, but not that much.

General house hold electronic devices are shielded for 60hz AC.   Your treadmill may use a variable frequency drive for the motor.   If that is the case, the VFD is varying the frequency to change speeds on the motor.   When this happens, it is not generating a 60hz output that the Wi-Fi router is shielded for, but instead some random frequency that is determined by the treadmill's current speed setting.

As other have said, ground the treadmill, and make sure that the two devices are on separate power circuits.    Ground the modem also if need be.    When grounding, use the shortest run possible, and do not piggyback devices.   Have a separate ground run for each device.
