Well a few friends of mine have gotten together and put together a little organization to help show some support for our brave men and women who are serving overseas who feel like we have forgotten about them. They've been sending over used baseball bats, gloves, balls, and more recently workout supplements such as protein powder, glutamine, multivitamins etc (turns out a lot of them are gym rats) and any other comforts that soldiers come to miss. Just helping spread the word for a great cause. They don't accept and money donations, just items.

Here's the Facebook page (still under development): https://www.facebook.com/pages/Operation-Fastball/579352455409731

They also have a twitter handle setup but I don't have a link for it offhand, just search "operation fastball."

Here's a more descriptive write-up:

This entire operation started when a friend of mine began working with Vance Albritz of the minor league team for the St. Louis Cardinals on getting gloves sent to the troops so they can have some fun in their free time... it was a big success.. over 1000 gloves were sent overseas and they sent back photos of them playing catch and stuff, it was very cool....

Seeing how much of a success it was and how much the troops enjoyed the baseball gear, he decided to continue working with Vance and branch out and start Operation Fastball: Pitch in to Support our Troops... they have been sending them food, western high school baseball shirts, dvd's, loofahs (they love them over there) and anything else we can get to help... one group in particular wrote to them and asked us for some help.

Their commanding officer said "his boys are gym rats, and would love supplements, protein powder, workout gear, etc. Anything like that."

They send them basically anything... Another of my friends just cleared out old DVD's and sent them a box of like 50 movies for them. Another sent out a box of soaps and loofah's, T shirts, food, and now yeah anything gym related... DoD has a list of banned supplements (like jack3d) but they are double checking the list and will send them basic protein powders, muscle milks, protein bars, etc... also compression sleeves, socks, gym wear and stuff like that. They still send them baseballs and baseball gloves too, so if you have old equipment you don't use and things like that, they really love it. It's hard for them being over there and not having the access to the little things like playing catch that we take for granted here...

So with that being said, just spreading the word. If you can help donate anything join the Facebook page above, Twitter, or the Email: [email protected]

Thanks for looking and god bless our brave men and women serving (and served) this great country.
