Tax pro (not H&R Block) would be  <$300 for a return like that. I'd definitely run it by a pro.

I pay my tax guy around $125/year, and he does an awesome job. Best $125 I spend every year. It's worth it just for the fact I can pile up all my paperwork, put it in an envelope, and send it to him with a note that says "please do the needful".

Idiot that I am I had both the wife and I lower our witholdings when kid was born.  I just did our joint return for 2012 and we owe 6k.  We have the money, that's not the problem.

Of course you have the money....you have been stealing from the government.

Goal for this year: Buy a house. If you're in the 28% bracket, you should be able to get a small down payment together.

I don't do my own and I don't use HR BLOCK HEADS I've had the same CPA for the last 5 years the worst I've had to pay was 2000 but I made XXX,XXX.XX that year also. They shouldn't cheat the system, yet use it to your advantage do your homework and ask for references.

Good Luck
