[ARCHIVED THREAD] - BF3 Tank question (Page 1 of 2)

So, no matter what I do, I can't get a freakin win with a tank agaisnt another tank. I went head to head against a tank that had almost no upgrades. I had reactive armor, and I got the first shot off. We exchanged shot for shot and I died first. Another time, I snuck up behind a guy and shot him 3 times before he turned and saw me. We then exchanged two more shots each, he jumped out and shot me with an rpg and killed me. So his tank got hit 5 times, mine 3, and he won. I had maintenance this time instead of reactive armor. So is there a place on the tank that does more damage when hit? I always blow up in about 3 shots, yet it seems I have to hit people 5 times to get them.

Quoted: Shoot the rear of tanks if possible and use smoke, reactive armor, and the heat seeking launcher Reactive armor has done nothing for me. And I did hit the guy in the back, 3 times. If I don't have a gun, then soldiers will kill me. I appreciate the advice, but none of that has worked for me. ETA: I've used heat seeking... shot a tank with a shell, shot them with heat seaker, shot with shell again, then I die. Again, I had the first hit.

Shot placement counts. Rear >> Sides > Front Yes, and a glancing blow to any of those areas will do less damage than a straight-on hit. I run reactive armor, IR smoke, and canister shot and I do fairly well. Outmaneuver the enemy tank and you will win. It also helps when you have two squadmates tagging along as engineers in the gunner and CITV stations. When that is the case you are nearly invincible and WILL turn the tide of a match. Fuck that shit. Just place some c4 and run for cover. Come at me with a tank and I will own you. And +1. If I'm playing support you better have a damn good gunner, otherwise you will die by C4. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Exactly. Practice makes perfect. You can get real good and stealthy. I literally ran at a tank and jumped on top of it to place c4. Also jumping on top of them from buildings is great as well. |

Outmaneuver the enemy tank and you will win. [/span] The best idea yet. Making them miss or using buildings as cover is also key. Terrain masking FTW. By the way... Why is it hits from front, sides, rear, oblique, glancing, are all modeled with different damage ratios... But hitting a tank FROM DIRECTLY ABOVE (don't ask how I did it) does no more damage than oblique front... That's some bullshit. Oblique top attack is just about the thinnest spot on a T-72. |

Have an engineer on one skid repairing, and a support guy with C4 on the other skid... Fly over tanks (or other hostiles, I don't give a fuck)... Support guy tosses C4... Detonates C4... Mayhem and carnage... Land that bitch somewhere masked by terrain, support guy tosses supply pack... He gets more C4, engineer gets more rockets... Repeat. Nothing beats killing a fucking attack chopper with those tiny things... The attack copper is screwed, he cannot self-repair while fighting. If you have a good engineer on each wing, that chopper is fucking INVINCIBLE!

FAIL on your part. *We* tend to have the support guy throw an ammo pack on the skid encore we take off. That way support can drop C4 constantly, the Engineer can launch Jav's constantly, and both an throw grenades as much as they want. The ammo pack won't come off. You're welcome. ![]() -SleeperShooter |

If I played with people regularly that would be amazing. |

I can get the PACK to stay on the chopper, however its "supply zone" seems to vanish the moment the chopper moves, rendering that method ineffective. |

I've done this hundreds of times. Don't know what to tell you.

-SleeperShooter Tried it many times with several groups and zero success. XBox here. Are you using PS3 or PC by chance? Done it recently? They've been nerfing a lot of stuff lately. |

Rear >> Sides > Front http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m10/Frageth/vehichart.png Just to update, I started paying more attention to direction and location of shot placement last night. I dominated. Was going 3/1 KDR mixing it up between tank and mobile AA. Dam those fly boys get mad when you keep buzzing'em out of the sky .

Funny story... I was in the mobile AA. Took down a helo but took damage, got out and went to deploy repair tool, but accidentally selected RPG. Shot my AA once. Then got my repair tool, started repairing, but was getting shot at. Jumped back in and tried to shoot the guy who was charging me, but the gun defaults back to guided missile, so I didn't switch in time before he was too close to shoot. So I jumped back out to shoot him so I wouldn't get C4'd, and he got in my AA and started driving away. Pulled out my RPG to take him out... it was unloaded. He drove that AA to his base and left it there, so my team never got it back. |

Lol. Proximity Scan owns C4 tards. I can't tell you how many I've run over. Throw it in reverse and speed boost it.
The impact angle image is very useful, I never knew they had modeled it like that. Quoted:

Quoted: The angle of the shot makes a huge difference. If you want to be harder to kill try angling your tank 45 degrees to your enemy. I personally prefer zoom optics. Used to like zoom, but I get killed more by AT and Engineers than tanks, so I use thermal now. |
This. So much more enjoyable too. The best part is being able to kill a squad mate that will not stay out of your way. Of course I did have one guy that was just being a dick and kept driving at me with a ATV and would jump out of it so when it hit me, it was neutral. Fucking made me want to throw the PS3 controller through the screen. ![]() Quoted: Play hardcore mode ![]() |

Noshahr Rush Defense is by far the best place for the mobile AA to shine. I went 21-0 and 23-1 there in the mobile AA in one night. Got a RHIB multi-kill of all things. Your team just has to be quick to mop up survivors as you burn down every helo and RHIB that approaches the dock. Several guys using javs on the amphibs helps too.
