We just bought a JVC camcorder, and it downloads movies in MTS. From what I have read online, these can be a pain in the ass to convert to a more friendly format. Anyone know of any good programs that can handle MTS? I've also read that you computer needs to be pretty souped up to convert them? I have a Toshiba Satellite L755, Intel 2.20G processor, with 4G RAM (64 bit) with Windows 7.

FFMpeg can handle it.

Computer doesn't really need to be that fast. Just that a slower computer will take longer.

Handbreak. It's free and the best program you can use as far as ease of use.

You'll want to convert to mp4 or m4v so you can play on an ipad, computer, tv, etc.

Use handbreak, trust me. Plenty of tutorials on YouTube as well.
