Doc had a beautiful place out in the country. It had two old houses, one he lived in and one he used as his office. It was only 10 minutes from me.

He planned to stay there until he retired. He is only in his mid-forties. He said he explored all options to stay but it just wasn't possible.

OP, I really hate it for you.  I applaud your doctor though.

They're saying companies will start dropping spouses from their employees health insurance plans shortly. That may get me.

I guess the up side is that illegal aliens will now be insured.

My Doctor is retiring from the medical profession as well because of the law changes.  However, he is in a medium sized practice.  The number of doctors in the practice is growing pretty quickly as the individual doctors in this area seem to be either joining hospitals or bigger practices.  I guess they need to be able to pool their resources, I don't fully understand it but it doesn't seem good.  Truth be told I don't see him very often so he may already have retired, guess I'll truly find out next time I do something stupid

I've been expecting this from my DR for some time now.  He's in his late 70's and stopped taking new patients years ago.  I will be majorly surprised if he doesn't close up shop in the next 6 mo to year.

my doc quit the week after BHO got elected. he didn't want to deal with his 'fixing' the health system.

My Doc is gonna stick it out for a while, but has told me that the mandated Obummercare computer system and training his staff on it cost him over a hundred grand. He also told be that a ton of his colleagues are retiring early. They just refuse to put up with the horse-shit.

My doc stopped taking new patients, and is now considering early retirement. She's only in her forties, but I can't blame her.

I'm actually going to sit back and enjoy the show over the next four years as I watch the expressions on all the dumb asses that voted for Obama (again) as the effects of Obamacare begin to sink in, as the economy continues to struggle, as unemployement remains high and as inflation begins to rise (as it inevitably will).  Stupid voting decisions are going to be costly this time around.

When a flu shot costs the doc $18 and the government will only reimburse $12...hard to be a good enough businessman to overcome that.

The doctors should shutter their practice, let the obumbo voters get sick or die, then re-open for businesses when the laws and taxes are more favorable.

This happened to my sister and BIL.  They increased the price of family insurance, and THEN said that if your spouse is employed, they must pay and additional 100 per month or get dropped... The best part... the employer is a hospital.

I'm sure there are some good examples but not this one. Medicare pays for the vaccine and the adminstration seperatly. Depending on the state its about 26 bucks when added together. He doesn't know how to bill this correctly. in addition he shouldn't be paying more that 12 bucks for vaccine cost his supplier is scewing him if he is. A good example would be how medicare reimbursement for diabetic testing supplies has been cut 77%. Medicare offers me a total of 10.41 for a box of test stripts. I could source a crappy chinese product for 7.50 and sell it to seniors, file the claim, wait 3 months, medicare sends a notice wanting more information, send them the information, wait 3 more months for medicare to deny payment, appeal, wait 3 more months to receive my 10.41.  No thanks. We have no choice but to not offer medicare billing anymore.

Don't forget that the docs have to buy the vaccine and if they don't sell it all they eat the cost.  Mine quit doing flu shots because he was losing money.

Per unit cost is greater than reimbursement. I have seen this with a peds doc and a family practice doc in two southern states.

In one case a patient even offered to cover the difference with cash, but that is illegal per the federal government.

Also, there is a deep seeded hatred in the left for those who make lots of money via their own hard work and dedication.
*Except their wealthy donors and themselves.

ETA: They want rid of most of the "old timey" private practice physicians and the insurance industry. Once healthcare bottoms out, they can swoop in, institute single payer, nationalized healthcare and backfill the MD ranks with wild eyed socialist young doctors (who get cheap government backed med school tuition) and 3rd world imports who will work for peanuts.

Basically.  There has been a concerted effort to create such an expensive bureaucracy for doctors that the only way to survive is to combine in some way with a hospital or a hospital group, with varying forms of reimbursement from a straight paycheck to some type of RVU system.  The insurance companies will be fine as they will likely administer Obamacare for the gov't.  I laugh when people think this would hurt the insurance industry in the long run when in fact they've now found a way right into the taxpayer's pocket via the government.

We lost our doctor too.  She said it was just too much hassle so she was going to retire and take care of her mother.

They replaced her with some rag head quack.

I finally found a young doctor but Im just hoping he stays.  There was a sign on the window that they no longer accept the govt welfare insurance, whatever that is.

Eventually all of our Doctors will be Indian immigrants, because they will be the only ones who can afford to get a medical school education (costs a lot less THERE), and then make a living at being a Doctor HERE.
