Wife's car.....Hyundai Tuscon with 60k

We plan on keeping it. Runs great.  Is it time now and worth it to replace the timing belt?

give it nother 20 to 30k.... about 85 to 90k is about the time to start thinking about it. I just changed one on a 4 cyl honda that had 125k on it and the belt still looked good.

Do whatever the service interval is. A bit over isn't necessarily going to kill you, but making sure to have a good belt on there is always preferable.

It's cheaper to replace the belt and associated parts (water pump/oil pump, idlers on some vehicles) than it is to replace a head or two worth of valves or maybe worse. Of course if it's not a interference engine, no real worry on the valves, just getting stranded somewhere and being down a vehicle at inopportune times. Still better to have it done

Also, are you sure it's a belt and not a chain drive? Some chain drives still have tensioner wear though

Hyundai forums says change at 60k.

It is an interference engine, so if the belt breaks valves get bent.

FWIW I'm a truck mechanic and have never worked on a Hyundai.

I would change it.

Pay me now or pay me later.

Owners manual or call the dealer.

If the maint. schedule calls for then do it.   If it breaks then it will be really expensive.

Just did a cursory look.

60 months recommended change interval, says nothing about mileage.

Must be time deterioration factor, rather than mileage.

Got a Hyundai Accent.  Manual calls for every 60k.  Cost me about 500 I think at the dealership the first time.  2nd time was just recently,  had an independent mechanic do it, was like 350.  That's including parts.

If both (manufacturer recommendation and it is an interference engine) get it done.
A timing belt is a whole lot cheaper then not replacing it and having it break. Expensive noises are the result on interference engines.

What does the owners manual say do?

How old is it? Age and heat/cold are the worst thing on timing belts. I change timing belts on my vehicles every 5 years. Especially an interference engine where if the belt breaks, valves get bent and it costs a whole lot more to fix.
