September 1994 - Assault Weapon Ban
April 1995 - Oklahoma City Bombing kills 168 people including 19 children. Assault Weapon Ban Status : Fail. Restricting "Assault Weapons" does nothing beneficial. If anything, it makes nuts get craftier. If they don't have access to a firearm, they will make a bomb or think of something even more destructive, as witnessed in 1995 and throughout the time period when we had a ban. Remember the unibomber, anthrax attacks and DC Snipers? Also, the Columbine kids still had banned magazines. Also note how banning STANDARD(30) capacity magazines does not effect criminals. If the Sandy Hook killer only had 10 round magazines, that wouldn't make a difference. He is in a room full of unarmed children. The few seconds it takes to reload doesn't really affect people who are in an area without any resistance. Do you honestly expect 6 year old children to Rush the shooter and take him down while he is taking 4 seconds to reload? Do you expect adults to Rush the shooter while they are basically stunned with what is going on around them and they are unarmed? Magazines that hold more than 10 rounds ARE useful for people who are trying to defend themselves. If you are under fire, every shot counts and the 4 seconds that it takes to change a magazine could cost you your life. I'm so glad I only had 10 rounds, said Nobody. You will not win a constitutional argument with a liberal. They don't give a damn about it. It's like using bible verses to debate an atheist. You have to give valid reasons as to why further restrictions are ineffective and counter productive. |

90% if the public school teachers vote democRat, proof most aren't as smart as they'd like to believe. I don't know if that's exactly true, I haven't seen any statistics on that. I would imagine the dem/repub ratio's are based on your geographic location, socioeconomic status, race etc. just like every other type of worker. That's like saying 90% of federal workers are dems, or 90% of police officers are republicans, both statements are clearly difficult to support. |

Will use to my advantage |

They're trying to teach you how to argue, using an example which is effective at capturing your attention.
I strongly suggest you learn the lesson well, because it will remain useful your entire life. One of the biggest problems we have in this country is that nobody actually understands how to debate. It's like playing cards with a three-year-old. |

Easy to refute the "law enforcement favors bans" part. It lists sheriffs and police chiefs organizations. Administration, who have not seen the inside of a patrol car in 20 years, does not reflect views of rank and file who are on the street every day. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Calling those places "schools" now is a lie. They've become indoctrincation camps where your child is held during the day while both you and your spouse slave away to pay the first three months of your earnings to the government so they can redistribute it to their friends.
They've got your kids for six hours or more a day Monday through Friday and you'll never be able to compete with that where you can sit them down and lecture to them hour after hour. |

If you write it well and structure it as instructed, but get graded poorly, request a chat with your teacher. This isn't worth getting angry over at this point. And OP, please tell me this is for a middle or high school college-preparatory class. |

I only asked as it pains me to see the amount of remedial lessons that need to take place at the college level these days. They're going to throw this kind of crap at you, but the underlying exercise is valid. Assemble good evidence, knock it out of the park, and be prepared to maturely discuss it with your teacher if he takes issue with the substance of your essay. |

This.
We have to stress the dynamics of a self-defense situation. The left constantly ignores the difference in situations in their arguments. Always bring this up when someone says that the number of rounds shouldn't matter, that 10 is more than enough, etc. etc. Quoted:

i just wonder.... what the teacher will do once you turn in your pro-gun paper. will he/she grade you on actual work, providing valid arguments etc... or will you be graded on your political views.
I'm betting the latter - that the teacher will give you a bad grade for disagreeing with his/her personal views. But don't let that discourage you. |

Argue your points. All you've done is regurgitated details you've read here or elsewhere, without supporting the reasons for your position. That's a failing worksheet. |

Send a blank copy of this to a junior reporter at your local news/newspaper with a note "local teachers pushing anti-gun agenda in classroom". Chain of events: 1. Junior reporter is desperate for a story. Any story. A controversial one is golden. 2. Even if 75% of readers are supportive, the other 25% will be mad as hell. 3. Mad as hell people call superintendent and/or show up angry at school board meeting. 4. Superintendent calls your principal and says "What the hell! You're killing me!" 5. Principal calls in your teacher "Knock that shit off! You're killing me!" Please follow up with a link to the news story. |

A masterful counter point essay is usually a good route. "Initially I decided that acting as a devils advocate would be more productive, as it is usually more difficult to write from this position. After doing the research necessary to be familiar enough with the topic to understand what sources were valid, and their factual counter points, I found..." If you give the teacher the idea that bringing up the subject will cause people to research it more thoroughly, and therefore completely discredit the teacher's preferred position, he may stop handing out poorly thought out political opinions as though they were actually school work. |

To the OP.....
I rarely ever subscribe to a thread. I've subscribed to this one. That you've already "seen the light" about limited government impresses me. It took me a helluva a lot longer than you. They almost had me indoctrinated. I may have some hope left after all. (ETA typo corrections) (IF I can figure out HOW to f*cking subscribe to the thing |

Make sure you write an A+ paper on this subject. Have someone assist you in the revisions of the paper and follow the exercise to the letter (and any other general instructions). That way, if you get a bad grade, you can appeal it on the grounds that it was political bias that caused the bad grade.
Seeing that it is on gun control, you can go ahead and talk about our arguments, including the more guns less crime theory, Australia, the Holocaust and Hitler's ban on weapons ownership by Jews, Stalin's ban on private firearms, Gun control and Jim Crow, ect. Give concrete examples backed by research and what other authors have said, and cite your sources properly. If needed, feel free to IM me for more suggestions. |

It really isn't worth it, arguing with the useful idiots. You'll end up on a list. Me personally, I just roll my eyes and make my own list. You argue for those who will listen. The useful idiots may not change, but the uninformed who see what you put forward may. You'll end up on a list anyway. |

It's like playing cards with a three-year-old. This X1000 We had one guy in our speech class who would get so mad at gun and abortion related topics that he could not even speak clearly, he would just "Hank Hill" it and start to twitch with his forehead getting all veiny. He is the type of person who could win followers on a place like this, but that is not going to do you much good in the real world. Valuable skill for sure. |

Australia is a decent example of the futility of strict gun control laws, but Mexico is a much better one.
Per Wikipedia:
The gun homicide rate is almost 3 times higher than here in the USA, in spite of the fact that legally obtaining or owning a gun in Mexico is almost impossible. There is exactly one gun store in Mexico - and it's located on a secure military installation. If draconian gun laws worked, Mexico would be a crime-free paradise. |

I just skimmed it, but there is a lot of BS in there.
Sometimes I miss being an undergrad. I'd love the opportunity to go back and take easy papers like that where the prevailing opinion in the class or of the professor isn't very well devoloped and knock them out of the park. Oh, well. |

@ the penmanship.
