I'm looking for a movie to watch tonight and I have considered this.
is it any good?

In other news, I saw Argo the other night,  I was quite impressed.
Does anyone know if they cut it quite as close as they portrayed in the movie at the airport?

Zero Dark Thirty is a very good movie.  Most of it takes place before Obama even takes office and has almost nothing to do with Obama.

Nothing like that happened at the end of Argo.

I compare ZDT to The Kingdom. Drama for the first 90% with all the action at the end.

Dude, get over it and just watch the film; it's very good and has very little to do with Obama.

Yep. Best movie of the year. I was surprised. I REALLY liked it. I actually thought the movie portrayed Obama Administration negatively with the whole "This mission's been an ongoing work in progress done before your time" attitude.

This.

It's a brooding film that unfolds very slowly. It makes you appreciate what it took to find this guy. It's really an incredible story. While I didn't care for "The Hurt Locker," "Zero Dark Thirty" is a real achievement for Kathryn Bigelow.

...but then, I've always knows that KB had what it took. She made "Point Break."

My wife and I found ZD30 entertaining and engaging. We both enjoyed it. It is not the Obama love fest I thought it might be; in fact, it's not flattering for the Obama administration at all. I think the only visual reference to zero himself was his face on a TV newscast in the background of a shot. James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano) portraying Panetta, gets some screen time, though.

The Argo mission actually went off without a hitch at the airport. A few tense moments, but nothing like in the movies; there is a very good documentary about it with the actual agent.

I was told over and over again that Zero Dark Thirty was nothing but an Obama worship movie.  Then my wife dragged me to see it (she really wanted to see it) and it has nothing to do with Obama.  In fact, several times it makes Obama look pretty bad as well as all politicians.

Those who say that it's Obama propaganda are either full of shit or are just repeating the same tripe just because someone else told them.

You would be wrong.

In the movie when Obama becomes president and orders the halt to "enhanced interrogation" techniques you can see the pissed off looks on the CIA agents faces.  The person that plays Panetta is the one that says the operation is a go, they don't show Obama sitting around and watching.

I thought it was an excellent movie, very brutal.  Keep in mind it's very realistic, which at times will seem a little boring.  If you're expecting Mission Impossible mixed in with the Matrix you'll be disappointed.  There are only 2 things that I saw them get wrong in this movie.  1: the girl has red hair instead of blonde,  2: the chopper that came in to pick up SEAL team (because their chopper crashed) was a Blackhawk.  Should've been a Chinook.

I thought it was a GREAT movie. I was very surprised, based on who directed it, and had very low expectations. It seemed like the point they were trying to get across with Obama was "geez this guy sat on the information for over half a year without doing anything about it..." Or at least that's what I got from it.

Just a guess, but I believe the reason they used a Blackhawk is because that's what we and the Jordanian Special Operations Aviation Regiment that they used for the flying aircraft in the movie had. The Area 51 part was filmed in my unit's hangar at King Abdullah Air Base in Jordan and the raid scene was filmed near the Dead Sea.

I enjoyed the movie.  it was a procedural film that built up to the killing of osama.  I was pissed they didn't show osama dead.  my opinion was they were pandering to the ropers and didn't want to offend their delicate sensibilities.

plus it was funny seeing Andy from parks & recreation as a navy seal.  would have been great to see Ron Swanson as the det commander (team leader?)!
