So my sister in-law is going out with a guy that recently graduated with a BLA (bachelor in liberal arts). He has been looking for a job for a bit and has apparently found a job (in sales? or installing? of ground penetrating radar systems) that he interviewed for in Ohio and the Job is in Boston Massachusetts (apparently New York City was another option but that fell through). I've met him a few times and he seems pretty nice (they're both Obamanauts).
Apparently the job has the potential to make 100K (not sure if that is + or -). They seem pretty serious but no indication that they have any intention of getting engaged anytime soon. Also no signs that they're going to break up soon. SIL has a good job. I think she is trying to find a transfer in the company she works for to Boston. I'm just really curious why people with liberal arts degrees are being recruited to Boston / New York to sell or install / sell ground penetrating radar systems? |

Quoted:
They don't care what his degree is in, they care that he can present their products to their potential customers. Now, relocating someone for a sales job is unusual, are they paying for the move? They haven't said anything about the company paying for the move to so my impression is no. |

Quoted: How does someone with a liberal arts degree know enough about ground penetrating radar to sell them. That does not sound like it will work out too well. Oh, I'm sure he can recite the canned sales pitch convincingly enough to create a callback. Then the tech sales guys can talk GPR sex to the purchasing geeks. He won't get any commission, and he'll be a barista in six months. The SIL, she'll hang with the schmuck, because he's sensitive. |
