Enlighten me...

I just found out my Brother-in-Law smokes 7 cartons of cigarettes a month.  I know nothing about the cost or how many cigarettes that actually is.  If he sleeps 10 hours a day, how many cigarettes is that?

Poll coming...

If he buys his cigs at an indian reservation, he pays ~ $25 a carton.

So 7 cartons = $175/month

$175/30 = The cost of a starbucks venti a day

7 cartons at 10 packs each.  20 cigs/pk.     1400 cigs.

50$ a carton.  350$ on smokes each month.

Tell him to roll his own. Much cheaper.

There are 10 packs per carton, 20 cigs per pack. 7 cartons in 30 day is 70 packs or 1400 cigs per month. That's about 46 cigs a day, 3.33 cigs an hour if he sleeps 10 hours a day.

I'm a former 2 pack a day smoker, which costs $6.50 per pack in my state. I've been smoke free since Dec 26th of 2012...

But, the trade off is; I'm getting fat! Food tastes so much better, and fast food tastes like shit

It's right close to two packs a day.

I used to smoke a carton a week on average.

Seven cartons a month is a lot. I smoked two packs a day for years. Lucky Strike non-filters, then Marlboro Reds. I quit in 1996.

I used to smoke half to a pack a day, but that was back when I got out of high school and I always gave out at least 5-7 cigs. Now I don't buy any packs or smoke at all beside 1 here and there every couple months.

Soon I'll be done.

The e cig or anything like it wont be the same and will just make you want real cigs imo.

I forgot to mention that he has an electronic cigarette he also smokes.  I'm not sure what that does for him.  He was also on the patch and smoking.  I thought 1400 cigs a month was a joke...I guess it really is 1400..  He has COPD that he refuses to get treatment for.  Of course the first step is to quit, which he won't.  I feel sorry for him because he's 62 and can barely get around.  Cigarettes sound harder to kick than heroin.

I hope he owns a shit ton of Philip Morris and/or RJ Reynolds stock.

I was a smoker for 15 years, at times a heavy smoker - but I doubt I ever smoked that much.

Nicotine was shown to be more addictive than cocaine, but a person can quit if they truly want to.

Sounds like your relative knows what is coming, and plans on riding it right into the ground. Some smokers are oddly comfortable with that, right up untilthe point they realize that it is rare for a person to die suddenly from COPD.

10 packs to a carton
20 cigarettes per pack
So 7 cartons is 1400 cigs

If he's smoking name brands like I used to they were $43 per carton here last I knew. Of course taxes vary by state and if he smokes that much he's probably buying a cheaper brand so it's hard to say really how much he's spending.... But damn that's a lot of smoking. That comes out to over two packs a day.

I quit regular smokes on Nov. 3rd of last year, in favor of an e-cig, and haven't had the urge for a smoke ever since.  I'm not using one of those look-a-likes, though.  Those generally have bad reviews and don't work for some people.  There's absolutely nothing enticing about a real cigarette to me anymore.

7 cartons is only 70 packs. Figure about 30 days in a month, he smokes about 2.33333 packs a day. Two packs a day is pretty bad but it depends on how he smokes. I've seen heavy smokers who burn through two packs a day but most of their cigarettes ended up burning out in an ash tray so they really smoked far far less.

Fuuuuuck, I work outdoors so I can pretty much smoke whenever I get the urge, and I can't even imagine smoking 2 and a 1/3 packs a day. Where do people find the time for that?

I depends I was up to almost 2 packs a day when I worked in a shop that allowed smoking inside despite the law. It's not hard especially when you don't get much sleep working nights. 40 cigs in 19-20 hours is only about two an hour.

Not a drinker.  He knows the road he is going down and refuses to see a doctor or try to improve his health.  It's a sad situation.

Don't get me started.  We had to have the entire place stripped and painted.  Liquid nicotine stains dripping down the walls like blood in a horror movie.  The once white blinds were dark brown, the carpeting was littered with burn holes, and strange dreadlock like things were hanging from the ceiling.  The place smelled like a forest fire.  I literally had to change my clothes int he garage when I got home.

The place is looking a lot better and he smokes outside now, but I don't know how long that is going to last..
