I had some. Named them all Jack. So I had a fish tank full of "Jacks"

I kept them for like a month, then they started dying so I flushed 'em.

I expected beach volleyball games with my new creature friends. All I got was watching sea lice swim in a fish bowl.

My 11 year old was given a package of them by a friend over 2 years ago. They swim. In circles. Every time I only see one or two and think they're finally dying off, they spawn a new generation. My wife actually bought another pack of them just to get the pack of food to feed them.

I recall well that particular piece of false advertising. The picture would show an underwater castle and sea monkeys scurrying about doing their daily business. Ergo, sea monkeys were an advanced life form with a complex, industrial civilization.

In reality, they didn't build castles at all. They didn't build anything. To put it bluntly: they were pretty fucking stupid.

See, that's why they target kids. Obviously an adult is going to know that the sea monkeys would live in a fishbowl. Thus, where the hell are they going to get the materials to build a castle? Not many stone quarries in a fishbowl. I mean, you could buy them one and put in in the bowl, but after working all day you come home and the last thing on your mind is buying a castle for a bunch of fucking sea monkeys, ya know?

There was no Internet back then. No ARfcom. We were innocent. We didn't know.

EDIT: That's it! That picture above! See the castle?! Bastards!

Bought some about a month ago for the 4 YO. They didn't hatch, so we bought some more.

The second batch hatched and lived maybe a week.

They are down the drain now swimming in my septic. Hopefully the poo doesn't cause some strange metamorphisis to occur and they get really large and attack us in the middle of the night in a couple years.

We shall see.

Brine shrimp.  Many aquarium stores sell them.  When I had a reef tank I fed them to my inverts and fish.

I had some of those, then I also had one of the "grow your own aquatic frog" things and then some triops. It took me a while to realize they weren't all as cool as the packages suggested

I worked in a toy store when I was 18, so I used to grow them in the store all the time.  They didn't live very long, but I told the boss it was the same set for almost 4 years.

I bought some Triops for the kid when he was younger. They ate each other until we had one victor. He ended up being about 1 1/2" before he died. Freaky looking creature.

I never got sea monkeys, mine were brine shrimp.   No families, no castles, no cool sea monkey society....just shrimp.  I feed them to my Siamese fighting fish, Fred.

i never wanted the sea monkeys--it was the $7.95 plans for the working 2-man submarine that i wanted.

edit: $6.98

Anyone remember a show called "Get A Life"? Chris Elliot as  30-something newspaper delivery "boy" who still lived with his parents...

One episode he finally actually receives the submarine he ordered from a comic book about 20 years earlier.

Man, I'd forgotten about that show.. His parents were constantly cleaning guns in front of him in a vaguely threatening way.. lol
