so i'm 27 and yet i have some problems with my knees, they constantly kill me. ever since i was in my teens they always had a tendency to make loud popping noises everytime i bent my knees. now it's to the point where stairs make my knees uncomfortable. long walks start to hurt, i have a hard time running as well.

i dont understand why its doing this, i've never had any issues with my knees other than the popping. never had any knee injuries and i've always been a somewhat athletic guy.

any ideas guys?

Maybe patellofemoral syndrome
Maybe cartilage

In the absence of trauma, agreed

Go see an orthopedic surgeon, you need a history, exam and x-rays, any opinion without those things is useless.

Since we're guessing I'll go with iliotibial-Osgood-osteochondritis-pigmented villo-nodular lymphadenopathy sarcoma FTW.

Get insurance ASAP

Under 30 it should be about $175/ month

Otherwise, I had knee pain that has gone significantly by excercising. I am a few years older than you

Drink your first urine in the morning for two months, you'll be fine

Everytime I have sharp pains in my knees it ends up being a muscle in my thigh thats pulling wierd on the tendons/ligaments and a visit to the chiropractor takes care of it for awhile.
OP get insurance, or get a job that provides insurance. You're going to need it eventually.

What worked for me:

- Lose weight
- Squats
- Body weight squats
- Body weight squats on one leg, standing on a phone book. The wobbliness helps with balance issues and helps build the muscles around your knee.

I'm not overweight and am in decent shape. My knees are messed up. They've been this way for a few years. Stairs mainly do it for me. They crackle when I squat down and the doctor said that's normal (I'm only 22 btw) I went to another doctor an hour away and he took another angle x-ray. He said my knee caps were turned inwards and the ligaments were a little messed up. He said it was actually pretty common. Physical therapy or surgery could fix it. I have done neither because I don't have the time to do the therapy or the $$$ or time for recovery from surgery. It really sucks. I'm not able to walk the fields like I used to when pheasant hunting or go running like I used to.

I have problem knees.  They do best when I do a combination of cycling, weight training and walking.  Cycling helps the most, but I have the best results when I do all three.

Stay hydrated, take a magnesium, zinc, calcium, and vitamin D supplement, take fish oil and stay hydrated. Take up and activity that provides full articulation of the joint yet is low strain. Hill climbing, cycling or exercises that require a full range of motion in all parts of the leg.

It is normal for knees to pop occasionally and the creeky clicky clak noises are normal too. I would bet that you have occassionally noticed periods where they were quiet and pain free.

Google the relationship of Magnesium, Zinc, Calcium and Vitamin D to tendon, ligament, muscle, bone and cartilage health.

very common problem called chondromalacia of the patella - basically your knee caps are going out of alignment. You need to strengthen the vastus medialis muscle by doing straight leg raises but with your feet turned outward to concentrate on the inner lower thigh. Doing squats and leg extensions will only aggravate the problem so avoid them until you restore the alignment

Nope, I'm 20 years older (get your shitty knees off my grass) and mine do nothing of the sort...
