Just plugged it in, BADASS!! Give me some channels! Also, does anyone have DLNA working on theirs? I have a 6tb NAS i'd like to use instead of the USB port. |

Quoted: hey grab the fox news channel. does it play all clips? or one at a time? Live is audio only, i checked out some of The Five clips. There was a ton on their channel. Quoted: How much per month? $0. You only get billed for things you buy using their store, like movies or channel subscriptions. |

Quoted: Bump, Christ to get any replies your thread title has to say Obama or tits in it ![]() I've had a Roku player for years. Mine's so old I've considered replacing it, even though it still works great. Netflix - you subscribe, you can watch via Roku. Amazon Prime - you subscribe, you can watch via Roku MLB.com premium subscribers can watch MLB games on demand (I've never done this, not a big baseball fan) Crackle - free movies with commercials (the commercials are oddly placed and often it's the same commercial every time for the entire film but hey, it's free!) Pandora - free for up to 40 hours/month In short, for a small investment you get a device that will access a ton of free or low-cost material and display it on your TV. Video quality varies but is generally acceptable at worst. I'd recommend one to anyone. |

Get the plex Chrome plugin. When you find a video on a web page, you can add it to your plex video queue by hitting a button. |

Costs me 8 bucks a month--sure beats cable! |

Apparently PLEX won't run with my Roku XD. I get an "Insufficient Storage" notification when I attempt to add it and go to the channel, and I removed all other channels. I have a 1st gen Roku XS and 2nd gen Roku XS and I have no trouble. How many channels do you have loaded? Just wondering as I have been thinking about getting the XD for my sister... |
|
Roku DOES NOT support DLNA. However, you can use a local media server like Plex or PlayOn to stream content to the Roku.

Im dropping my cable once Justified is done for the season. Im thinking im either going to use my xbox for netflix and see what else I can get for the xbox or im going to get a roku box.
Im only home 2 weeks out of the month and watch so little tv its not worth the $100 a month I pay for it. |

I removed all but Netflix, and attempted to add it. It seems to add, but when I follow through and select "Go to channel", it gives me that error. I posted a question on the Plex forums to see if it's just a no-go for this box. I have the gen 1, it's a few years old. |

I am watching NHL Gmaecenter live on my Roku as we type. So far just that and Netlfix. Though I downloaded TwonkyBeam last night and its pretty badass. I can play YouTube vids on my iPad and the play through my tv/Roku. Same goes for photos and videos on the iPad itself. |

I personally bought a Roku, while I like the device itself, I was a bit disappointed by some of the content, i.e. Hulu. There are alot of shows that are available on Hulu when watched through a computer that are not available through the Roku. If I had to do it again, I would probably go the route of building a HTPC instead, but that is just me.

Main ones I use are Netflix, HBOGO, Amazon, VideoBuzz, Pandora, Crackle, and NowhereTV. I just added PLEX, but I haven't set up a server yet. I've added and checked out several channels, though, and I've found good stuff out there. A lot of channels are junk, but you won't know until you try them out. |

Zach I think Hulu can't get permission from the content owners to put them on their Roku channel. Dumb, I know. Just encourages people to acquire the shows another way. |

For live news check out JustinTV The problem have with JustinTV is they rarely have a working feed for live Fox News. There is usually a working feed for CNN and MSNBC though. For those who have DVD/Blu Ray discs with the Ultraviolet option, you can access the Ultraviolet digital version with the Vudu channel on the Roku. Roku has an app for Android devices as well as iPad/iPhone devices that allows one to control the Roku and stream music/photos to it. Since setting up a Plex Media Server and using one or two unsupported channels I no longer miss seeing shows like Justified, Walking Dead, Talking Dead, and some from the USA and SyFy network. |

What links don't work? I often add channels listed in that guide to my Roku without issue from both the HTML version and the PDF versions. |

I'm debating the Roku and a straight Media PC. Right now, I have an Ipad2 with the HDMI adapter that I use occasionally.
The wife is pregnant with baby#2 and she's been asking about a second DVR for the bedroom so she can watch her soap operas at night during feedings. I don't want to sink the money on another month to month charge for a DVR just for THAT, so I'm looking for options. I have one buddy that swears b the media PC and ABC free streams those stupid shows. I've also got Amazon Prime, so that would work as well. I think you can get a cheap PC for 200-300 bucks. But the non-HD Roku is only 50 bucks.... Any Roku users have any suggestions? |

Works like a charm, with the right plugins everything is available. |

The annual cost for xbox live will pay for a Roku which has no fees beyond the cost of the box itself. Plus, the xbox sux for media use. Roku for the win, I have 2 of them. |

With all of the above I could really just cut cable. My only hesitancy is getting the news channels. I have yet to find a good way to get live Foxnews over the internet. I have a Roku HD, I got refurbed for $60. It works but the buffering that occurs every time I pause rewind etc is annoying. A HTPC does not need a lot of horse power or memory and with the new MB's/Processors with on-board video HD content is played without an issue. The biggest cost is going to be HD's and tuner cards/devices. I'd say to build a decent HTPC you're looking at $500 including case power supply processor, MB etc. Sadly component prices have not dropped like I would have expected and in some cases are going up. |
| I've owned a Roku for some time now and I just discovered Plex through this thread, it's awesome! I'd been using my xbox to play movies from my computer onto my tv and it's horrible, it constantly loses it's connection and I have to shut Media Center completely down and restart it, in order to reconnect. |

Quoted: Been watching old crappy movies on zom-bee all day. Peekay. Thanks for posting. Check out the Plex media server. It's a must have add-on. I have to note though, I installed Plex on my Synology NAS, and found out transcoding didn't work. I had to install it on my Windows box. Also, I don't believe transcoding will work on any ARM based machines. |

When you have multiple units can you specify whats on each one?? Like no pron on the living room one? Don't think there is any kind of parental control over what channels are shown on the Roku Home Screen. I have two units and the same channels are shown on both.If I delete a channel from one Roku it gets deleted on the other. Apparently you can set parental controls to some extent in some of the individual channels themselves. Plex rocks, especially some of the unsupported channels. Edit to add: Also it helps to burn or convert your media on the Plex server to a format the Roku will support. This will supposedly alleviate the need for the Plex server to deal with trans-coding from one format to another while attempting to stream content. |
