I'm looking for something that could be used around the house, outdoors and carry.
I'm not looking to spend more than $150. |

In no particular order:
SunwayMan Fenix JetBeam 47s Klarus ZebraLight NightCore Orlight SureFire That's nine, but take your pick and I'm leaving some out. I run a Xeno E03, A Sunwayman V10R, Zebralight SC-600, Fenix PD32, P1D, ShiningBeam I Mini, a Icon Rogue 1 and a Surefire 6P LED. All are fairly small, pocket-lights. Chris |

Quoted: I'm looking for something that could be used around the house, outdoors and carry. I'm not looking to spend more than $150. How bright? How big? How heavy? Battery preference? One light for all three tasks, or separate lights? When you say "carry", do you mean pocket, holster, ...? Hard to make a recommendation based on what you put here so far. And unclear that I understand the "top 5" thing? |

Surefire Fury end of thread. 500 lumens for $100. If you get the P2X Fury, it also offers two settings: 500 lumens and 15 lumens. A lot of folks want that retina searing high output, but having the option of a low, low setting to me is very attractive, if not mandatory. It's a great light. |

Surefire P2X fury dual mode. You can mosey around with it on lower power around the house ( and long battery life ) and when you need it kick it up to 500 lumens. Also it's a Surefire. I have personally visited the Surefire factory and can attest firsthand that if you want a light you can stake your life on Surefire is where you start and stop. I'm not sure anyone puts their lights through as rigorous testing and quality control as surefire.
I bought my P2X for about $108 on ebay. It's a bargain. |

Depends on what you want. If you want a practical flashlight for the house, truck, and outdoors that will work light up a home invader if you ever run into one, this one works great for me, and for about $40, you can buy several of them for the price of one surefire. For me the fact that it was only $40, runs on AAAs, and doesn't get hot when you leave it on for extended periods of time made up for the "really bright" vs "blinding" aspect.
Of course, if you just want to win flashlight competitions with your friends, you're better off with something with a few hour battery life that gets hot if you leave it on and will blind you if you use it for anything practical and it reflects at all back into your face. |

I admit, I'm still a SureFire fanboy.
I started out carrying an E2D Defender every day. I migrated to an E1B Backup and got one for my wife as well. I lost my E1B somewhere in the ceiling of one of the schools I work at (which vexes me to this day All of these flashlights I got from BrightFlashlights.com, and they were all within your stated price range. ETA - I would go back to the E1B for everyday use, and that would be my recommendation to you. The E2D LED is more suitable for use as a defensive weapon, but its just a bit too long to carry comfortably around in my back pocket. |

Fenix.
I'm running PD22s on my ARs and pump shotgun-one PD22 sits less than 1.5" from a Battlecomp 1.5, over 750. Rounds and still going. Carrying a PD32UE-5 modes up to 740 lumens-2 lithium 123s 90.00 bucks and carries better in pocket than a surefire Fury( head bezel diameter is smaller)! |

I'm a fan of Streamlight. I carry a Microstream clipped to my pocket every day and have a C4 LED TRL-1 on my M&P 15. IMO, the Microstream is extremely powerful and compact enough to carry all the time making it a perfect EDC light. Plus it's only like $15!

Streamlight single CR123A cell, small enough to be carried in a pocket, 110 lumens with strobe. I liked it so much, the wife and son now have the 2 cell Streamlight PT-2L and I bought one for myself. You can pick both the PT-1L and PT-2L up for $76 total off Amazon. |

Quoted: Quoted: Surefire G2 LED Yep. Lifetime My main light, picked it up from BrightFlashlights in the industry section some years ago. It's been dropped, thrown, mounted on several different rifles and shotguns, still works/looks like new. I've got it loaded with 2x Trustfire 16340 protected li-ion batteries so no more having to buy batteries, plus they are a little more powerful than the cr123s so I get more light output. It's still within the input range of the LED assembly so completely safe. Learned this from the candlepower forum. |

For $45, I've been very happy with the Streamlight ProTac 2L as an EDC light.
High, Low, Strobe, runs on 2 CR123A, very small. http://www.lapolicegear.com/streamlight-protac-2l.html?gclid=CObL3tefvbUCFQLZQgodbCQABg |

A lot of folks want that retina searing high output, but having the option of a low, low setting to me is very attractive, if not mandatory. It's a great light. Yup, it is a great all around light. Very useful around the house at 15 lumens. Good for inspecting the kids for whatever the problem of the week is or doing something in the car at night. The wife even looks for it now and uses it about as much as me. Not sure if it would be my first choice for a "tactical" light due to the low setting being the first to come on. I also looked at the Streamlight ProTac HL, which might work for you, but settled on the Surefire for a few reasons. The Streamlight is $66.50 on Amazon. I have had great luck with Streamlight's customer service over the years, but I have also needed their customer service more than Surefire's. At the time I think I determined that the Surefire was made in the USA vs. Chine for the Streamlight. I bought from http://www.brightflashlights.com/ and was very happy. About the same price as the cheapest I could find and took they the time to talk it over with me and make my decision easier. |
