IMHO, we should expect a full court press by the powers that be (TPTB) to control ammunition, by diverting it away from civilian sales and jacking up the price.  Yes, I know there has been panic buying/hoarding.  But does anyone here actually have the figures for how much ammo is getting to We the People vs going to FedGov agencies, Military, being torn-down instead of sold to the public.  And didn't they get caught recently shredding fired brass at Ft Drum?  They know in the near future that we will be able to create aluminum lower receivers at home on 3D printers.  Actually, didn't some enterprising individual already make a plastic lower that was shootable?  Anyway, they can turn the rifles we print into toy replicas by making ammo very difficult to get.  At the very least our shooting skills will be severely degraded due to ammo cost.  I would bet that the major ammunition manufacturers are owned/influenced by globalist players......  What we need are a bunch of small ammo factories in all the states that they do not control.  While I believe in 8-12 months ammo availability will greatly improve, I also think the prices will remain elevated far above pre-election levels.  And some new "crisis" will cause ammo prices to spiral further up!  What do you all think

I have a general dynamics factory in my backyard nearly, and they have .gov contracts, that's what they do. So idk, you can see a conspiracy everywhere if you look for one.
I'm hearing two sides to the big DHS ammo buy, that it wasn't so big. Who knows.

Everybody was making  a big deal about DHS bought 1.4 billions rounds of ammo.  By way of comparison, I have read that US ammo productions is about a billion rounds a day.

I remember after 2008, people were saying "the days of <1500 dollar AR's is over". Yeah, that prophecy clearly rang true

Point being, is that thinking a perpetual shortage will exist completely ignores basic supply and demand. It assumes no one will increase production, and that the .gov will be continuously buying massive quantities of ammo.

If the EPA bans the use of lead in bullets I'll start melting down and casting galena instead.

I think the point is what you missed....Manufacturers of ARs simply ramped up production and the only buyers were - us civilians.

Manufacturers of ammunition are at the peak of their capacity and the government can out-buy us all day long.  Plus they can say lead is poisonous to the environment which has nothing to do with the second amendment.

Screwing with ammo wakes up the fudds.... the .gov won't risk that, IMO.

Right, because we all know they failed with banning lead shot in favor of steel - oh, wait....

What happens to the price of ammo if Congress doesn't pass what our Fearful Leader wants and he directs:
1) EPA to rule lead is "toxic to the environment" and cannot be used in bullets.
2) BATFE to declare all solid non-lead metal bullets to be AP and therefore prohibited.
3) BATFE to declare all imported ammo as "non-sporting" or some such and therefore prohibited from further importation?

Not saying these *will* happen, but given our FL's demonstrated willingness to bypass Congress I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of these were to occur.
And the end result on the price of ammo? No need to ban the guns if there is no ammo or no-one can afford what ammo is available.

Probably won't be an outright ban on lead and other materials used in ammunition, just ridiculous taxes that skyrocket the price of ammo and reloading components.

Ammo will become the new vice to be taxed like cigs.  Ammo will be taxed to death.

I read they only use around 15 million rounds a year so that's a metric fuck ton no matter how you slice it

The 1.4 Billion number is a myth perpetuated by the Internet and this won't die. The 1.4B number is the maximum quantity the contractor is obligated to furnish over the life of the contract.  These numbers are artificially set high as there needs to be a cap on the contract.
