Can anyone recommend a free and good online accounting program similar to Quickbooks? I have a small business with zero employees and I'm looking for a program similar to Quickbooks which will allow me online access anywhere and anytime. Thank you.

Anyone? Bueller. Bueller.

That's not the type of information I would trust on an external server, in all honesty.

ETA: Especially a "free" one.

Really? I was hoping someone on here would have some experience with one. I mean, I can just order Quickbooks Online and use that but I'm looking for opinions or experience with one of the free online programs. I guess I could get Quickbooks and not keep the information online and just leave it all on my MacBook.

As a general rule of thumb, you should avoid putting anything online that you don't want the general public to have access to.

ETA: And if you're not going to use the online storage, is there any reason GnuCash wouldn't be equally effective?

Yeah, I guess you're right about that one. I really only need to have access to it on my MacBook. So, let me ask a different question then. Is there a free or relatively inexpensive accounting program for a single person small business?

Check out GnuCash.

ETA: I'd also encrypt that laptop if you haven't already. And you'll want that information to be backed up and encrypted in multiple locations. If it's properly encrypted, an online backup solution won't be an issue, because all anyone will be able to get ahold of from it is an encrypted blob with no usable information. I'm also a fan of the flash key in a safe deposit box.

Take a look at GnuCash

I'm currently evaluating it as a Quicken replacement.  I don't need all the forecasting, budgeting, etc. that Quicken has; I just need a solid package that will let me keep track of my bank and brokerage accounts.

I just looked into gnucash.org and that looks like it'll do everything I need it to. Thanks!

ETA: I just need it for invoicing, receipts, and tax purposes. It should help me keep better track of costs and profits.

Just be aware that GnuCash doesn't incorporate any kind of password protection.  On purpose.
