So say I want to make precise shots at 100 on paper and 700 on steel, would prone be the best position or off a bench rest sitting down? ETA Any caliber 1moa or 1/2moa at 100 if I am lucky. Man size steel targets from 700+ |
| I shoot best from a prone position - its how I grew up shooting accurately, so it just works out better for me. Plus I feel that its more useful / practical from shooting from a bench - although shooting from a bench with a rifle sandbagged front and rear is great for testing loads, determining maximum accuracy, etc. |

Putting a bag under the buttstock makes all the difference in the world shooting from a bench. It keeps your heart beat from causing the crosshairs to jump among other steadiness. How about a clinch fist under the stock? I've tried that too among other things but nothing works as well as the proper bag made for sticking under the buttstock. You can also squeeze it to make minor adjustment in aim. |

Prone, unable to find good steady benches. Unless you free fire you can see movement through the scope from you heartbeat. Can't take a chair to a gunfight, unless....... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v353/washparkhorn/lib_1843685c.jpg LOL, I wonder what the story behind that? |

The same concept works equally well in prone w/ a bipod. It makes a world of difference and only adds ounces to the pack for a baby bag or bone. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Bag>Sling>Bipod Prone, or stable bench. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Yeah, not so much. Each has its merits, pros and cons. To say that one is better than the other isn't correct. Tell me how a bag is more stable than a bipod with rear pod?? It ain't. Never will be either. |

Go check out some F Class shooting. A bunch of guys with sandbags & tee shirts shooting up to 1,000 yards.
While there is nothing wrong with a $600 coat, a sling & iron sights, F class is more approachable than Palma. If you have a decent bolt gun, you can play. It is addictive, and the people involved are pretty friendly. Depending on where you live in CA there is probably a match close to you. F Class intro . |

| OP, have this moved to the Precision Forum here on ARFCom and then get your answers. Trying to get real, legit info here in the GD is asinine. Every ducking poster is a door gunner, entry team leader, SEAL, or sniper depending on the thread. Plus, others get their info and tactics from COD and other friggen games. |
