what i meant was what actual forum topic... I couldn't find the info but went ahead and built it... I used 3/8 AR (abrasion resistant) plate at a 45deg angle for the back, I asked for hardend plate and that is what my local steel supply suggested... does anyone here have experience with what that setup will stop without wearing out?

Only 1 way to REALY find out.  Don't trust the opinions of the metal deals most have no idea what they are talking about.  I know because I have 5 steel targets that build that are now dangerous to use.  Great to have it at 45 degrees but best if you allow it to swing a little as well.  When you wear these out buy ar500 replacements.

1/2 inch cold rolled steal will just barely stop a 308 at 100 yards, and it will penetrate  after 3-5.  That is a swinging plate also.  At 400 a 308 only scars the surface a little.  Yours should be better than that.  Shoot them at the various ranges to see the damage done, 1 round each, then move them to where they will last and turn the clean side toward you.
