| Does anyone know of a good tool for creating an image of the C: drive? I end up formatting every couple of months for various reasons and I'd like to create an image of the "perfect C: drive". |

I use both for work, and find power quest easier to use. Just more intuitive. But if you don't have the problem of dumb asses having to follow written directions on putting your drives back pick which ever is cheaper. Though the current pqdi will create its own partion on your current drive and back it up whenever you ask it to as well, so you can keep an updated version as well as your virgin one. Either will let you back it up to cd-r's on the fly and to a network drive. |

I have both and can't get either one to make an image to a CDRW. I have gotten Drive Image to make a hidden partition, and an image there....just can't get it to recognize my CDRW and use it to burn a split up version. It doesn't see my CDRW and any attempt to load it (even when I load MSCDEX and other device drivers in the Floppy Boot Disk), I can't get it to see my CDRW for anything. Any advice would be good. BTW, my motherboard is a SOYO VBA+IV (uses a Highpoint SCSI controller to run UDMA66) and I think that is part of the problem, its not initiallizing the scsi portion first?????? No idea really. Good luck Edited to say I forgot to mention my CDRW is a Liteon 40x12x48, so its plenty modern. [red]Warning below link has nudity banners on it and all of the software there is full version software, do not download if its illegal for you to do so:[/red] Edited AGAIN, to say I downloaded Drive Image from http:\\kickme.to/fosi just to see if it would work, didn't so I deleted it. If it worked I would have paid full price for the support/upgrading ability alone. |

We use ImageCenter(comes with the latest version of DriveImage)almost exclusively where I work. There are a few guys who like Ghost. Oh, yeah, we bought a 5000 seat license from PowerQuest, go figure. Anyway, between ImageCenter and PartitionMagic we can do just about anything with hard drives and partitions. We rely on imaging for distribution, updating, and repairing PC's. Like that user that SWEARS he didn't do anything to his PC. His next question is..."Is the windows directory important? I may have deleted it." We have locked down the workstations pretty much now. Back to the questions at hand...you can download the trial versions of these products and install them. During the install it asks if you would like to make boot disks(I cannot remember the exact wording), make the boot disks. They do not 'expire' like the installed trial program will. Now you too can be a partition and image GOD!!! The ImageCenter(DriveImage) boot disk 'should' be able to see any and all CD-RW's. That is one of their selling points. As for networking, we've built an IP boot disk that will boot to the network, map a drive, and start the ImageCenter software. We also make bootable CD's that contain the image that will restore the image automatically without user 'help'. If you need any more info, email me and I will be happy to help. Just don’t tell anyone how much easier this stuff makes your life, job security you know. Btw, I am not an IT professional, I just play one at work.[;D] Oh one last note...this reply is long 'cause it is my 200th post and I wanted to be sure to ‘give something back’.[:D] ByteTheBullet (-: |
