Left with a pile of CC debt after my recent divorce I'm half tempted to sell my AR's and mags while the market is peaked and restock in a few months when supplies catch up?  I'd of course keep my hunting rifles, an AR and my Glocks.  A whole pile of 6920's isn't going to do me much good when the SHTF as I live alone and have no fire team to equip.    It would be really nice to get debt free and start fresh.  Thoughts?

The thought of selling high has crossed my mind, but I don't have any debt, so I'm sitting tight.

If I was sitting under a pile of debt I would probably sell though.

I don't think you would regret it. I'm sure less debt would be a big weight off your shoulders.

Yep, I did.   Sold almost 25 guns so far.  17 were NFA guns.

Sold doubles and redundant rifles during the peak. Got almost 3x what I paid for.

IMHO, if I was looking to reduce my debts.......

I'd keep one and sell the rest.

Same here.

Sounds perfectly reasonable, especially if you are keeping an AR.

Of course, you are taking a risk.  It's possible that some other shooting will  happen at just the wrong time and a ban will make it through.  Keep enough firepower that you could live with your decision even if you could never buy anymore.

When I was young I was taught that credit cards were evil.

I was taught to never have more than one month's worth of paycheck on a card ever.

I was also told to never ever sell a firearm.

So far, so good.

That said get yourself out from under that pile of debt.

Go for it man. Just don't turn them in for the tax credit if that passes..... That's just wrong.

Get out of debt, and promise yourself to not get back in it. Don't sell more firearms than it takes to accomplish this goal.

I just paid my car off via AR accessories. I didn't sell any actual firearms, yet the auctions for uppers and BCG's still went for crazy prices. I'd feel bad if I set the price, but I didn't, other choose to bid.

I have kids.  I pray that they will have kids.  I don't know how long our legal protections will last, but every one of my firearms is intended for any generations after me that I may be blessed with.

If I can't afford to feed and shelter the family I have, then sure, firearms are just another type of property to exchange.  But if I can manage to keep them, I will call them a birthright for my children and not trade them, even if it would reduce my stress or toil.

Just my choice, every man must have his own.

Your plan is dependent on the expectation that prices will fall back to "normal".

May never happen....then what?

Extrapolating based on your previous post about your prices you've done roughly a quarter million dollars in sales since Dec. 14 (probably more if you take into account NFA items). If there is any way that you've really sold that much (which I sincerely doubt) you should expect the man to come around soon.

Then I'll still have more guns than I can fight with, all the hunting guns and .22's I'd need, my son's guns, my family guns and access to a couple more AR's that I sold to my step dad already.

I'm sure there will be barrels and BCG and LPK avail in the future.

My back up plan would be to keep myself busy in my hobbiest machine shop making one-off semi-autos...

You have CC debt and you are asking us if this is a good idea?

Better get going on it.  This bubble ain't going to last forever.  It already looks like prices are starting to drop on GB but there's still money to be made.

Other than an outright ban, what would prevent prices from going back to normal?

It's not like they aren't making 'em any more.

In my experience, you'll sell the guns and you wont have shit to show for it. The money will be gone and so will the guns.

Then you'll be saying I should've kept the gun, at least i'd have that.

Only thing I'm going to sell is a bunch of AK-74 mags that I bought in 2011, I never bought the gun to go with them.

Yep, cleared out the safe, gutting it down to just a couple of rifles.  Now I'm starting in on the ammo and hand guns.

Will have the house paid off in no time soon

I'm generally pretty good with my money, divorce can be costly in more ways than one.  I make decent money and following my current plan I'll be paid down in 18 months.  I could sell a hand full of spare guns, mags and ammo and cut that in half potentially.

A bit of info for you, since you are new to the NFA game with 1 stamp. He can sell them, receive the money, wait for the transfer to complete and then send them to their new owner or the dealer if out of state. You don't wait for the transfer to clear before you get the money. Do you sell your guns and send them on to their new home, before you get the money?

NFA stuff has been moving at a fairly brisk pace down here. A friend of mine bought a can today and I'm going to go do a little shopping on Monday.

You know, it's the end of the world.  Obummers gonna take all your guns away.  Wanna buy any M855 for only $1.50/rd.  You'll never see it again.

I don't "need" the cash.  I can cut debt faster.  I'd always keep at least 1 AR plus a dozen or so others.  I'm sort of meh on the whole deal, but I listed one just to see.

I don't need the money, but I have been extremely tempted to sell all but 1 semi auto mag fed rifle I own.
Only the possibility of not being able to rebuy the firearms keeps me from doing this.
I did sell a dpms 6.8mm for 2k on the 24th of dec. I got a a taste of the money panic can bring, and that has made it pretty tough.

If I was buried in debt I would think about selling out. If not I would just hang on to everything. True prices are high now but there is a chance you might not be able to replace your guns if a ban goes through. Personally I am not selling anything because I can't think of anything I would rather have at the moment.
