I just got my lazy butt up and went to the end of the Drive to get my paper. After perusing the usual headlines and local news I turned to my favorite section, the sunday advertising circulars. Now, please understand that I get the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a thoroughly biased and left of center publication if there ever was one, but it is the only game in town. There it was in full living color, right next to Sears, the Comp USA sale ad and the supermarket weekly specials. I was speachless. I thought my kids were teasing me and put a page from shotgun news into the paper. I was wrong. A full 4 page Ad for a regional firearms dealer and outfitter featuring on the center front page, get this, $50 off on any .223 cal BUSHMASTER in stock, $20 off all Glock handguns on Sept. 6th and 7th, with a suitable picture of the beloved rifle to educate the uninformed. My friends, the Black Rifle has gone mainstream and offered for sale to the masses in the largest circulation newspaper in Ohio in living color. Could it be that things are changing for the better? |
| Honestly, I think a major reason more AR's aren't purchased is because of the high price tag for Bushmaster and Colt, which at least in this area are by far the most common. A lot of people just can't understand why you'd pay over $1000 for a semi auto rifle, or any gun for that matter. |
| Actually it was not a new dealer, but Fins Feathers and Fur out of Ashland. I was simply shocked that they would put an AR into the plain dealer. I can recall any number of mil styled weapons in the old days being advertised but not in recent years, the closest being dunhams listing milsurp bolt guns. Seeing that AR leads me to wonder if we have finally started to see some light. |

Yeah, F-F-F carries a lot of different types of weapons, ammo, gear and clothing. They built a new building 2 years back and they were really able to display things to good effect. They not only stock "evil black rifles" but it's the only place I've ever been in that had 30+ Shiloh Sharps rifles in the racks for immediate sale. The new place looks as though it's a smaller Cabellas outlet, which is not a bad thing by any means. If you live within driving range of Ashland, Ohio, it's worth checking out. Don in Ohio Edited to add that the store is on the East side of the city of Asland just a little East of the interstate exit, on the North side of the highway. |
