I've called and written my sate and federal representatives, I'v had the social media hyperbole tossing arguments, I'm not hiding my hobbies or my support of the 2A but it feels as if nothing makes a difference, and I am currently of the opinion that is because most anti-gun folks are arguing from a position of ignorance and emotion. I know that we are a bit passed the education stage of the current fight, but no matter how this one ends the next one is just around the corner and if we don't do our best to educate folks now we will lose that one. So I posted this to my FB page and so far have gotten pretty good responses. I am having email conversations with 4 folks and have another 3 lined up for a trip to the range. Don't know if it will make a difference buy it's worth a try. ----------- Open invitation to my Facebook friends – If you are part of my friends list here on Facebook you have probably seen my posts about the shooting sports I participate in, and my support of the idea that firearms ownership is a right that is not open to interpretation by the state or federal governments. Due to recent tragic events there has been a great deal of effort by politicians, mainstream news outlets, and anti-gun groups to restrict that right. Unfortunately the tools that they use in these efforts are predominately misinformation, scare tactics and often distributing false information as fact. This includes inventing terms for firearms that are design to elicit emotional response from people who are uninformed on the topic. I firmly believe that responding from a position of emotion on any topic is unwise, however to do so on this particular topic is out right dangerous. So in order to ensure that we are all able to have an informed and honest debate on the topic I make the following offer: I offer my time and experience. I am not talking about an emotion based social media shouting match, but my focused and dedicated time talking with you. I will explain the operation of modern firearms, how they work, why they are designed they way they are and what purpose the serve in our society. I will do this via email, phone calls, or personal conversations. Any way you are comfortable communicating. In addition if you live in an area where we can meet, I offer, at my expense, take you to the range. I will show you how these modern firearms actually work, how they are used in both sporting and defensive scenarios, and specifically how the media and the entertainment industry portrayal of modern firearms is very in accurate. I am not specifically looking to change anybody’s mind, but I don’t think that we can have a real debate unless we are all having the same discussion, in order to do that we all have to be speaking from an informed position.
