When did UPS start delivering packages to the USPS?  I ordered something from Opticsplanet on the second, and got a UPS tracking number.  I just checked, and it said it should be delivered today...but was delivered to the USPS.

I first heard about it about 3 months ago, but I don't know how long they've been doing it.  It's a dumb idea imo, if UPS is using the post office to deliver packages why shouldn't I use the post office to begin with?

Smartpost.  UPS/Fed-Ex gets it to your area, then it's finished up by USPS.  Obviously a cheaper method than direct delivery.  What method of shipping did you choose?

I've noticed that some online retailers are using Smartpost as their "free shipping" option, but you don't know it's Smartpost until you check the tracking.

It's not a dumb idea if it's profitable.

UPS = not dumb

It was free shipping, I'm not angry...since it was free. Just mildly irritated.

ETA:  If I would have known it would take over a week for delivery, I would have just paid for shipping.

They have doing it since at least 2004.

Yeah that's why I usually don't like "free shipping" because you never know the method unless they tell you.  I used to use amazon's "super saver" method and a few times it took close to 3 weeks to get stuff a few times.  Now I just use amazon when I can b/c I have Prime.

Yeah, I love Prime...but they didn't have what I ordered.  I ordered a double battery cap for an Aimpoint, so I can have 10 years worth of battery power.

It's been happening for a few years now.

I had ordered a T-Shirt a few years ago and tracked it and it said it had been delivered to some address I didn't recognize, so I called the place where I ordered the shirt from and they gave me my address at this point I started to get pissed I chewed the poor guys ass up once side and down the other.. To make a long story short I finally figured out it had been delivered to the post office for delivery to my mail box.

I believe they do this so that someone can't say they didnot recieve their package since thr post office confirms receiving it.

It's happened on a few of my packages over the last few months.

I see UPS trucks at my post office all the time now.
At yet UPS will still not ship to a PO BOX.

Only recently have some orders from places such as Midway been shipped this way to me. I got USPS delivery conf numbers (start with 9) in shipping emails instead of usual UPS numbers (1z-prefix), but tracking only works on UPS website initially, then later it shows transfer to "Mail Innovations" or some USPS locally at a big sort center a town away. Now, it shows up on USPS website track&confirm as "electronically notified of shipment", with delivery scheduled Monday instead of tomorrow, which really sucks. It takes 2 more days to get stuff this way, on average. I know because I've had a good many packages recently. Ahem.

Now to confuse the situation even more. Some UPS packages that were destined for a post office are now being re-routed back onto to a UPS vehicle to be delivered. This happens when another pkg was scheduled to be delivered to that address on that day. Since the UPS driver was going to that address anyway, they give him the Smart Post pkg to deliver as well. UPS has the technology to re-direct the Smart Post pkgs at the last minute. It's a pretty slick system actually.

They're all about saving a buck and it makes sense to have the delivery fulfilled by usps since the government pays their gas

Today was the first time I've encountered this. Pkg scheduled for delivery on 1/10. Arrived in town at UPS early a.m. on 1/9. Now the tracking says it's been given to USPS and expect 2-3 more business days for delivery.

How the hell is this effecient? The UPS guy makes several stops on my street every day, just let him deliver the goddamned thing.

And yeah, had no idea that this what "free shipping" would entail. Next time I'll just pay for standard delivery.

Uzbekistan is outside of the UPS delivery area. Thy'll utilize the local services to finish the last mile.

Why in the fuck is the USPS delivering in Uzbekistan?
