I can see why they're so addictive.Long storey short, fell 11ft. at work,6 buldging discs and a compression fracture in my L4.I've always turned them down when I have had any dental work done.Kinda scary at how good I feel right now.Last time I had any painkillers I was 19 with a broken hand.I'm 36 now and don't remember them being this good.

Just take them as prescribed. Don't abuse them.

Yeah, I liked those Vicodin WAY too much after I was in my motorcycle wreck. Start weaning off of them as soon as you can get by on Ibuprofen.

If it didn't hurt so bad to do anything I'd have turned'em down.I watched painkillers ruin a neighbor.I'm kinda worried about long term use and the physical addiction if they can't straighten out my back.+1 on taking them as perscribed.

Addiction is all in your head. Follow the perscription and you'll be fine. When you can no longer tell when they start wearing off, stop taking them. You'll be fine.

They just put me to sleep so I never understood the recreational use of them.

Man, that's no good. Hope you heal up pronto!

One thing, pay attention to your bowel movements.. as in get some metamucil or somethng if you need to. Any kind of narcotics bind me up badly. Common side effect.

And when I was younger I'd gobble any Vicodin, Percocet, etc. that I could get ahold of just because they were fun... lol

Not anymore. The pain relief is good, but they make me feel nauseas now, just worse than taking the pain.

Opiates have much less "feel good" effects when someone's in actual pain.

The euphoria and other desirable effects which drives people who aren't in pain to abuse opiates are much greater when you aren't in any physical pain.

That's a quite ignorant statement. Addiction has a psychological and also physical part, especially with opiates.

What drives a person to drug abuse which leads to addiction is something, addiction itself is completely another thing.

Take a max dose of ibuprofen every 4 hours. In between, take a max dose of acetaminophen. Worked for me through a double hernia repair, and a 14-bone-break motorcycle wreck.

You might want some Prilosec with that.

Truer words have never been spoken. Been on a slew of pain meds for herniated disks. Vicodin, OxyContin, morphine, methadone etc, etc. After more than a decade of taking them, I just stopped as they had lost any effect on controlling the pain. No withdrawals or any symptoms of the sort. Taking them for an actual condition that warrants it vs. taking them for fun are two differant worlds. Like others said, talk a stool softener along with them. Opiates cause constipation in the worst way. Best of luck to you and remember, take the meds BEFORE the pain starts, otherwise you'll just be chasing it with the meds.

I'm a active person,so it's hard to just sit around the house for me.I feel the euphoria, but it's the mobility I'm using them for.My doc has me on 10mg/325 percocet with the orders of 1-2 every 4-6 hours.I've been taking 2 a day.The first time I took one I thought I was going to puke, and still get a little nausea when they first kick in.I went about a week after the accident before I went to the doctor and was taking over the counter ibprofen. The pain was intense.Still hurts but not close to as bad but I can get around easier.

THIS!

I've been all broken up over the years and have taken plenty of pain killers. Still do with my bad knee.

MotoCross background. My doctor at one time told me I could take up to five advil. I did until my stomach could not handle it. Make sure you have something in your stomach when taking it.

I have been taking vicodin for over a year now. I have cut back to 2 a night. I could stop but would rather not deal with the pain and actually get a good night sleep.

Addicted......NO

The hospital gave me all sorts of stuff after my bypass surgery (cracking chest and all that) .

My Surgery was on a Friday morming and I just barely remember friday night . By late Saturday night I wasn't likeing what the drugs were doing to me so I asked to try without and everyone sort of laughfed except for one nurse who encouraged me to try Iburprofen .
Can't say I was at all comfortable but I got through it all and I believe I was beter off not takeing all the stuff offered.

I have had sever nasty dental things done since and they always force some script on me that has not been filled yet.

Every person is different and every situation is different but it seems to me most folks would be better off to use the pain crap as little as possible and for as short a period as possible

Good luck to the OP on getting his back healed up. My experience is any injury has a short term healing period where hopefully you can get resonable comfort and function back then a long slow period to battle back to a higher level of comfort and function . Push too hard and setbacks can smack you. Best wishes

I can't stand painkillers. I use my mind for a living and it pisses me off when I have the motivation to solve a problem and things that are normally trivial are unsolvable. Oddly enough, I enjoy going out and drinking, but that's usually to unwind after a bout of intellectual productivity.

So true.

I was on some oxy after my accident. I don't recall any of the "feel good" effects, and that was some pretty heavy stuff.

Got rid of the pain (mostly) and just knocked me out.

Max dose of ibuprofen is 800mg 3 times a day. DO NOT take more than this, intestinal bleeding and kidney issues can happen. Be careful with  mixing ibuprofen with other anti-inflammatories like naproxen (aleve) as it is easy to exceed max doses. Also be careful about taking additional Tylenol (acetaminophen) as most pain pills like Lortab, Percocet, Vicodin, etc have this in them as well. The pills the OP  is taking, 10/325, the 325 is the mg of Tylenol in each, no more than 3000mg of Tylenol daily or liver issues can result.

If you do go longer than normal without taking a crap, start a laxative or fiber as suggested.

If you take them regularly, likely you will have some issues when you stop them as physical dependence is real, just start the ibuprofen and continue to wean off when you're ready.

Just wanted to clear some of this up.

Someone I know was taking oxy for years and he wasn't even up to more than 10/325 every 4 hours. 20 mg will roast you in a very bad way, which you probably already know.
