Did the 3 inmates make it to San Francisco alive who escaped in 1961?
I am watching a show right now and the fake heads they made were awesome. |

For an even better story about Alcatraz, read Six Against The Rock. They actually brought Marines over to quell a break, used bazookas, mortars and grenades. Fascinating book. Eta- IMHO those three were crab food. San Francisco was different back then. Citizens lined the waterfront and cheered when they heard BAR bursts or grenades going off. They loved the Marines and hated the convicts. |

I doubt it. I've any of them made it, it was likely only one IMO. If all three did, it's too likely someone would've bragged, given a deathbed confession, made contact with family who would've squealed, etc. I tend to think that way too. If one of the 3 made it, he could live without the fear one of the other two would talk or make a mistake. It is possible, however, that all three made it and against all odds, they never said a damn thing. |

That's one place I'd like to see before I kick off. Shame it's in San Francisco. |

Mythbusters made when they did. If I remember correctly there were footprings next to the raft on Angel Island and a car was stolen that night too. The wife and I went out to Alcatraz during an anniversary thing they were having. There were people there who'd been both inmates and guards there. After hearing some of the stuff they had to tell I think if I managed to escape from there I'd stay real quiet about my past. Wiki: In the first season of Mythbusters (eighth episode, first aired December 12, 2003) the feasibility of escaping Alcatraz on a makeshift raft was tested and judged to be possible.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_1962_Alcatraz_escape#cite_note-NYTimes_June2012-6][6][/url] According to a 2011 program on the National Geographic Channel, investigators had found footprints leading away from the raft on Angel Island, and had also identified a Blue Chevy car stolen that night, contrary to the FBI report. |
