So All those storage hunter shows out there.... If they find guns in them can they legally keep them? What if the owners report them stolen or they are stolen themselfs?

IIRC they are required to report them to the police, then it depends on state law from there. Some states let you keep it, others pay you for it.

Varies by state. Here in Virginia I don't believe we're required to call them in, however most do to make sure there are no "known issues" that may pop up later. I've been told they call them into the State Police and have them check the serial number to see if they're stolen. I've been to hundreds of storage auctions and have purchased over a hundred units and have never found a gun. Have heard about plenty of them and saw one in plain site once when the doors were opened. It was junk though and I didn't bid...

ETA: One of my best units was full of plastic storage bins. You could see through the clear plastic on some of them and they contained books. Nobody wanted the damn thing and I picked it up for $300. I couldn't believe it...it was a good-looking unit and there were a bunch of veterans there! Anyhoo, I started going through it later with a friend and we opened up a few bins and just started finding tons of firearms stuff...glock and beretta magazines, firearms manuals, cleaning kits...we thought this was going to be "the one". We found no guns there...several late model mac laptops and new-in-box ipods though. Lots of military gear too...made over $6,000 off that unit in just two weeks; mostly on eBay.
