Does anyone have experience with this brand?

I just bought a single 12 inch sub and 2 6.5 inch door speakers.

I'm hoping they'll do alright...

I got the infinity reference 1260w svc 12. (4 ohm) my amp pushes 400 watts rms at 4 ohm so I'm hoping it'll sound good in a sealed box.

Dang, those are pretty inexpensive, too.

Spec wise, I think the infinity speakers have them beat. I just hope they sound okay.

I only paid $55 for the driver thanks to a sale.

Got a sealed 1.4ft³ box for $10 off Craigslist.

Got a Rockford amp for $60 off Craigslist.

I think it'll sound good for the money at least.

Infinity makes good stuff and they make some crap.  The Kappa Perfect line of subs gets great reviews but I like the more performance oriented stuff from the smaller companies.  I run PSI subs.  That's right - Pink Star Industries.  The owner is local to me and not only makes his own line of subs, he can custom build you almost anything you want as well as repair most of the better subs on the market.  He's the former president of Resonant Engineering Audio.  Here's the custom sub he built for me from a 65 pound magnet structure:

That's awesome.

I was trying to keep my price down by buying used and sale items.

The sub I picked has good user reviews, but so do the $20 Boss subs...

Any experience with the reference series?

In the 80's and 90's it was good stuff, now I have no idea.I had Kappas in my pickup truck doors and 2, 10" Kenwood subs hooked up to Alpine car stereo with a huge Alpine amp, that thing kicked ass.

You can even get upgrades like flat-wound coils and maybe pictures of your sub being built - http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/psi-car-audio/137445-10-yes-ten-15-platform-1s-greg.html.  That coil upgrade is worth it.  On the 12" sub in my wife's Lexus, I went with flat, copper wire on my coil.  It added some weight, helped with power handling and increased the BL (motor strength) a LOT.  Here's me putting the recone kit into the rest of the sub.  The slideshow is a little out of order - http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/rlj5242/PSI%2012%20Sub/?albumview=slideshow

This guy runs ten PSI platform 3 18's with 35,000 watts pushing them.  I didn't make a mistake and add an extra zero.35k.  His sub amps run on an isolated 16v charging system - http://www.down4sound.com/forum/showthread.php?9388-JPs-2012-HVCA-TAHOE-REBUILD

Can you bridge channels 3 and 4 on that amp and do those channels have a low pass filter?
It will run at 2ohms and your amp(assuming single voice coil) will feed more power to the sub if you do.

I have an older AB alpine amp (F450) running a set of Hertz Hi energy 165's and channels 3 and 4 are bridged running a 10" alpine sub.

I had two sundown 12s in a ported box with about 1500w rms in my suv. That was way too loud for me.

I'm thinking about spending a bit more and getting a psi sub/box... I can probably sell the stuff I ordered to my friend.

I wish I knew about that company. They seem like a better value than RE and others.

I was looking at a picture thread on some forums, they definitely seem to make quality equipment.

I'm using an old Sony 4 channel amp to power my other speakers.

It's only "they" if you count his wife boxing and shipping product and his ugly dog named Kitty.  David is a great guy to work with on audio projects and makes a great sub.  With both custom subs, he has met my requirements 100% each time.  I also has a slight advantage over most people in that he is local to me so I don't pay for shipping.  Most of the time I just wait for him to come to town and meet him somewhere.  Once I did get to go to his shop and watch him build a few subs.  There's not sub robot machine laying down those glue seams, that's all done by hand and comes from years of practice at the old RE factory in Las Vegas.  David was also the guy that went to China after Scott sold RE and the new owner needed someone to teach the build house how to build RE subs.

Since you are familiar with Sundown, Jacob just received some prototypes today - http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/sundown-audio/140199-sundown-x-10-x-15-x-18-prototypes-here.html

I can't comment on CAR audio, but I found a perfectly good set of 4 Infinity speakers on the side of the road several years ago, and the only thing holding them back is the audio quality, and the receiver!

Anyway, yeah I'm pretty satisfied with them.

I'm not sure which model they are but I think without looking at them (I'm not home currently) they would be equivalent to these

Infinity is one of those brands that always merits a listen.    While not all of their products are winners,

they often are easily the best thing you can find at any reasonable price point.

I was trusting Infinity products to sound good and not break, many years before most of the names found

in car audio today even existed.

I agree.  Nice and clean.  And those PG amps are great.

I went with PG components in my wife's Lexus.  You can't even tell I replaced the factory speakers.  I'm also one of a handful of people who have replaced the head unit in the ES-350 model.  I got lazy on the trunk and used a retail box for the PSI 12.  Although, it was the exact recommended air space and does and excellent job with the 1,000w of power pushing it.  And that setup does a great job on satellite talk radio.

A waste to you but not to the posters in this thread.  I like the ability to play close to 5,000 songs stored on two 32GB memory cards, or watch a DVD (not while driving of course) or listen to any one of the XM channels through a sound system that can accurately reproduce music.  I have close to 3,000 CD's stored on a media server that I can stream into my home theater and listen to.  I see about a dozen live shows a year.  If someone wants to get into this hobby or just wants a nice stereo, I am more than happy to help here or any of the audio forums I participate in.

I ripped with lossless WMA but use WMA 320kbps in the car.  When driving, it is difficult to tell the difference between the original and the 320 version of the same song.  I sacrifice a little quality for more choices. Here's my build log from Club Lexus - http://www.clublexus.com/forums/es350-2007-2012/585746-replacing-non-nav-radio-in-a-2007-a.html

I have never purchased a song from iTunes and the few times I have downloaded an MP3, it was only to audition the song before buying.  I hate compressed music.

The newer stuff seems to lack the meeting of "rubber to the road" quality in ratings.

I would much prefer older equipment ( amplifiers and speakers ) to the newer gear.

Infinity speakers in the older years weren`t bad.

I always had better results with bigger boxes for lower sub frequency reproduction.

Ap1500.

It puts out rated power and it's only $150. It's not very efficient, but it'll put out damn near 1500w rms.

I'll be waiting a while for everything to get here.

I don't know if you bought the AP1500 yet or not but another one to look into is the HiFonics 1700 or 1200w mono blocks. I've read nothing but good stuff so far as the Brutus line goes. It's killer bang for your buck. I read a thread on SMD where some dude clamped the AP and it performed surprisingly well for the price too though.

I'm gonna switch over from my Xtants to Hifonics eventually, but I wanna wait until I can swing an additional battery and upgrade my 4ga to 1/0 since I'll probably go with the 2400.1 @2ohm and 40.4 @2ohm X 2.

Hifonics/AP are both equal from what I can tell.

I considered the brutus line as well as the AP.

Went with the AP because it's less expensive per watt.

I've gotta get some 0 gauge for the big 3 upgrade tomorrow. Should be fun in the cold...

Which AP amp?  Most of them are will push about 1100w to 1200w into 1 ohm.  I'm running a Powerbass 1000w amp into my PSI recone.  I can blur my vision with it.

Ap1500.

It puts out rated power and it's only $150. It's not very efficient, but it'll put out damn near 1500w rms.

I'll be waiting a while for everything to get here.

Got my box put together though.
I made my statement about power output with the AP-1500 in mind.  That number comes from this video.

I wish we lived closer so you could school me on car stereo equipment with your Jedi audio knowledge. Car stereo stuff is probably the only thing I never got into and wished I had.

There are a bunch of good forums that aren't like caraudio.com (makes the GD section here look tame).  Car Audio Classifieds, DIY Mobile Audio and Down 4 Sound are all good.  Or just ask a question and a bunch of us will jump in to help.

Yea.

I found a brz1200 or whatever on CL for $80, so I bought that. I'll be sending my AP1500 back.

Ready for my damn sub to get here...

Ebay sub

I bought one of these for the lulz. It should be here tomorrow.

I figure it'll hold me over until I get my psi.

It looks to be high quality for the price... 12 spoke basket, large magnet, bolted down spider, etc.

Found a big thread on some car audio forum... Apparently they're damn good for the money.

I figure I can sell it on Craigslist once I get my psi. I could always put it in my truck if I end up liking it...

I am a huge fan of Hybrid audio Technologies, I am running the Clarus line in my tacoma and they are way better than the Morel elates i was running
I am using Image Dynamics subs off a Zapco Ref 1100.m

Sounds awesome just a thought but you might want to check Do it yourself mobile audio.com  those guys helped me out.
dont get discouraged on the classifieds section there is some real niche market sutff out there that costs a fortune!

Got my $57 ebay sub.

Wow... For the money, it's amazing.

Way better than the POS infinity I had.

It actually has decent sound quality.

I can't see myself selling this once my psi gets here. I think I'll put it in my truck, or get a 2nd one and put two in my truck.

I'm feeding it over 700w rms and it's handling it fine... Not bottoming out or distorting.

If you want bass on a budget, I'd buy this sub in a heartbeat. Sounds way better than my friend's kicker Cvr.
