I read this article last Saturday when they threw the paper edition of the WSJ into my driveway. What struck me at the time was that it was so different than the articles I read as a teenager when our veterans were returning from Vietnam. In those days they talked about how our veterans would need to recover from the horror they had caused.
Today they are writing about how dedicated our Marines and Soldiers are to the mission, and how that might be a problem in returning to civilian life. That’s a real improvement in my view. Since I am not a veteran, I have no idea if this story represents the real world or not. It’s a good read, and there are many vets here who will know if it’s BS or not. It has just come out from behind the paywall. I am a sentimentalist, and at my age I can afford to be. I think USMC Sgt Martin should be allowed to finish out his 20. Seems to me he has paid his dues. When the Fighting Stops Mike |
