It's just an Al-Jazeera news report.

Pretty badass.

Also, useful info if we end up there.  Thanks for the post.

So they salvaged a tank gun barrel, and apparently have a couple of guys in that workshop that actually know what they are doing.

Looked pretty good, actually.

I give it a week before it is on "Sons of Guns"...

The funny thing is that these Syrians were taking a no-bullshit approach to it.

Sturdy barrel, adjustable bipod, and ammo that looks good to go.

No extra shit bolted on or important features lopped off.

Would you describe yourself as mortified?

I'll admit, stuff like that video and the "paki-made" guns made from hand files and stuff are really cool even if they don't work that well. I wish I could do anything close to that.

That setup looked a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Then again making hi-explosives that are supposed to shot out of a tube by other explosives is not something to half ass.

Makes you wonder what a machine shop in the USA could do if need be.

I was wondering the same thing.

To be perfectly honest with you, I was impressed.  I can't imagine the man hours required to make a combat load out based on what I saw (lathing each round!!!!).  But, if there is no industrial demand for machining, and you're in a civil war, what else are you going to do with your time?

Oh, and tactical weed-burner at 0:33!

Another reason the US would never be taken over.    Lots of guys handy with a furnace, lathe and also have a working knowledge of the "Punkin Chunkin" show.    All the required info you'd need has been covered on "Junk Yard Wars", "Monster Garage" and other Discovery channel programming!

pretty cool actually i would like to know the time it takes to make a single round. I also would not want to be the guy shooting them off

They were smart enough to leave the barrel long enough to give you time to run for cover... just in case!

I didn't see a lot of inshallah in that video. Looked like they were doing things "right" in a harsh environment.

Anyone who can do that in austere conditions is worth employing.  Too bad they live in Syria.

That was pretty nice work.  A foundry, lathe, and plenty of scrap metal.

In the USA, we have plenty of electronics geeks too, with a lot more CNC tools than you might think.  Can you imagine what Americans in that situation could dream up?
