| getting a TX CHL instructors certificate. I have so many days off with my current work schedule that I could do this on the side. Anyone have any info about getting certified in TX? |

I did it in one of the first groups back before they issued them and they were training the first batch of instructors. Unless you are doing this just for the heck of it you need to have a range set up ahead of time to work for or you are wasting your money. About 100 bucks when I did it, I don't know how much it is now. They do the training in Austin, they were going to branch out but I don't think they bothered. If you have no instructor training prior, it is a 40 hour course, the last day is range time. You must qualify 90 percent on both a semi auto and a revolver. If you do have training prior it is a shortened course I think 20 hours, and the shooting is the same. It is only good for 2 years, and you can use it as the qual/class for your chl permit as well. |

Nope. For an individual to qualify you only have to qualify on either a semi auto or revolver and you only need to score 70 percent. But if you qualify with a semiauto you can carry either a revolver or semiauto, but if you qualify with a revolver you can only carry a revolver. Oh I forgot. No one will let you do what you are talking about, or they charge an extra arm or leg to do it. Each range has a number that dps uses to track where they qualified. So when you ask for that number, they know why you need it and a special fee is added, or they don't give it to you and you don't get to be certifiying people. Now if you own a bit of property, you can make your own range and have dps come out and certify it so you can teach and do range time where you are instead of needing a range. |
