I have decided alcohol is becoming too big a part of my life. Even just the few beers after work was having a negative affect on my attitude.
Going to take care of this before it becomes a problem. day 1 edited to fix tense in body. it is a problem in my life. |

over 2 years for me, invest in guns instead of lawyers and fines (dui) My wife is open to the idea of what was my beer money going to whatever I want. AMMO FORT!
Thanks for the support guys. Any suggestions? Any time I feel like I want a drink I eat an apple and chug a glass of water. seems to work so far. |

it doesnt take to long before you dont even care, also when you read about your buddies getting arrested it reinforces your desire to not drink that's how it was when I quit smoking too. After a while cold turkey it just wasn't a part of my life anymore. I have a good track record for kicking bad habits. Thanks again for the encouragement guys. Wish I had never even had a drop of the stuff. |

I am a social Russian and drinking is a big part of my social life. I can not imagine myself to go completely dry, but I don't drink alone...never...ever! This simple rule have kept me a social drinker with no need or addiction or dependency for 25 years since I was 17 and left home to college! if you could not control it, I congratualte you on your decision |

Going on 3 years for me. Unfortunately, it has been substituted by a severe addiction to Mountain Dew.
I really don't miss it all that much. I used to always have beers with the guys watching football but now if the urge (which is rare) comes on, I just remind myself of the $1500 I will have to pay as well as the loss of my license if I get a DUI. That has been plenty of motivation for me. |

Quoted: A sober person, the best they are going to feel all day is when they wake up then it is all down hill.. A drunk has the rest of the day to look forward to. Nothing personal, but that is a stupid saying. The best I feel is not when I wake up, but I feel better as the day goes on. |

I wish you the best OP. I don't know what your faith is but for me a Christian church really helped/helps. |

I'm drinking way less and enjoying it much more these days. I had to stop pretty much cold turkey at first until I learned a new set of social habits. I'll have a nip once in a while now but I NEVER get drunk. Those days are over. Over the weekend a friend offered me some moonshine. Everyone else in the room looked like he was offering to let them battle his pet dragon. I took a polite but small sip and enjoyed it. It was pretty good stuff. I could drink it with no fear and truly enjoy the taste. The rest of the guys were afraid of it because they were drinking too much anyway. Moderation has made me a much better person. Nobody thought a thing of my drinking a Coke while they hammered back the beers the rest of the evening. Take a year or two off drinking and then limit yourself to no more than three drinks in a month when you get back into it. Getting drunk means being out of control and that's just not my bag any more. |

How I wish I could trade places with the drunks I've seen spending their days––and nights––in severe withdrawal, seizing up, screaming, vomiting, etc. Watching––and hearing––it is enough to drive a person to drink. |

stay strong! If you need to talk about it PM me, I was a drug and alcohol counselor for 9 years.
If you feel the urge find something else to do. Clean a weapon or two dozen...LOL Go for a walk. Take the dog out. Do something nice for your wife like iron her clothes for the next day... Good luck |
| I stopped 2 1/2 months ago. It wasn't a problem in my life but I just decided that it wasn't doing anything for me. I quit dipping 6 years ago. If you feel positive about the decisions that you are making you can get through it. Good luck OP and there are plenty of people here who will always listen if you are having a hard time. |
