Anyone on here raise quail?  If so, what kind of pen(s) do you have, how much space per bird do you have, what type of quail, etc?

I'm just looking at a small number for meat and possibly selling some. Nothing huge, I live in town with a fairly small yard.

Thanks,

Mark

Bobwhite quail are hardy and do not need a lot of space.

A small chicken coop will work

My quail pen was 10X50, pvc frame covered in netting.  It kept the quail in and the cats out but one hawk figured out how to get in and out but she didn't take too many so we let her come and go.

It's amazing how quiet 300 quail can get with a sharp shinned hawk in the cage with them.

Find a local pay for hunting preserve, that is another market.
Rabbits take less space if you just want to eat them.
Quail are small, like Doves.

Did it as a kid, raised Bob Whites I bought from a farm supply.    Not anything really difficult about it, just keep them sheltered and watered.

Buy or build yourself an incubator.  Cuts down on chick mortality.

I think they went extinct in Ohio. I haven't seen one for decades.

Not exactly relevant, but I don't enjoy shooting pen raised quail.  Feels too fake.  Are you going to raise them to hunt or just to eat?

The plan is to eat them but I'd certainly sell some of the extra to anyone who wanted them.
