The index for my electrical panel took a vacation and I'm working on getting a new index in place. I have all breakers figured out except for one 30 amp switch.

I have five large two pole breakers  1) Clothing Dryer 30 amp, 2) Water Heater 30 amp, 3) Furnace 60 amp, 4) Kitchen Range 40 amp, 5) I'm not sure what this breaker is for.

I'm sure it's something easy I'm missing but can't figure it out. Does that Hive have any thought on what it might be?

ac compressor

You may have a wall outlet that has a dedicated 30amp 220 feed for a window a/c.  It will be an odd looking round outlet.

Do you know of anything else in the home or close prox outside the home that runs on 220v power?

Do you have a small sub panel in the garage or a 240v outlet?

Whole house fan?

Utility 220-Volt receptacle in the garage that you have never used?

Did the previous owner have a hot tub?

Grow lights in the secret basement you didn't know about?

Turn it off until you figure out what isn't working.  Old house? previous homeowner put in a bigger breaker because the correct one was tripping?

pull off the front cover and make sure its connected..........it may have been put in as a spacer with nothing hooked to it...........Only thing I can think of is an old 220 window unit that was used before central air ?

Could be a number of things. For the small price of a plane ticket, casino money, and a high end hooker I can figure it out for you.

What about your swamp cooler?

If you don't have a swamp cooler, I'm going to say you're tougher than I am these days.  I grew up on SW Missouri without AC, but I would darn near die without it now.

I have a spare 30amp breaker for a travel trailer hookup on the side of the house.    Did the previous owners have one?

I bought the home new. No extra 220v outlet, no baseboard heaters. The feed for the garage is a 100 amp breaker that feeds the sub panel. I know this because I put it in. I did pull the panel front and the breaker is in use. It is part of the original panel installation and not the stuff I added/changed when I put the two additions onto the house.

3 suggestions that I can think of as an electrician

1.  RV charging recep

2.  Home theater/audio video equipment

3.  Whole house vac setup

I honestly can't think of any other legitimate use for 30amp 120v outside of specific equipment, which even that is rare to be 120v.  ETA: Since your house is new, that would probably exclude the equipment, and options 1 and 2 unless you do have a home theater.

I was just funnin'.

A 30 amp load isn't huge but could be used for a modern range. If its a double then its 220 obviously.

The only time I ran into a 30 amp 120 circuit was for one of those chairs you ride up the stairs on. I still don't know why it wasn't 220 though.

I would simply turn it off and go around and see whats not working. Could also be a "spare" that never got removed and left on. I've seen that too many times!

Depending on if it's a single or double pole breaker maybe:
Microwave
Dishwasher
Garbage disposal
In-floor heat strip (think bathroom)
Whirpool/jacuzzi tub?

I'm still scratching my head. I've got a call into the builder to see if I can get some insight. I seem to recall something about the house being pre-wired for a roof AC unit but we never had one installed. It may be that that's what the breaker is for and somewhere along the line it got flipped on.
