nice....

Hmm, it would be alot better if it sat flush to the wall.

ABS plastic without a door?

Even 10 gauge steel with a simple key lock or two would have been better.

Nothing like your friends 4 year old boy stumbling upon your M4 behind a mirror ... or even an earthquake exposing your stuff.

That wouldn't be tactical, now would it?

I had something similar, but mine had a door with a keyed lock.  i liked having something that kids wouldn't even look at or be able to open.

Never had the house broken into either but i like to think it would have been missed.

Or the fact that break-ins usually leave the place ripped apart.

Cool idea, but like you said even a superficial metal door and lock would be better then that.

It's just a plastic tub with a unlocked, hinged door?

Hidden in plain sight, I like it. Is there a way to lock them though?

However, I live in my girlfriends house and I doubt she would allow me to put one in her walls.

Any thief with half a brain will remove all pictures, mirrors, wall hangings, etc.

Easy pick'ns

We have something similar except it's a big ass fucking safe sitting on a raised concrete platform with a fake wall in front of it. You would never know it's there, and if you did, you're not getting into it or getting it out.

Yes,  because no one ever hides valuables behind mirrors or pictures!

I like this idea. I would use it more for every day quick gun access than long term hidden gun storage.

I have been looking to build something similar, removing the wall covering between 2 studs and box out a frame, but figured I would just line the wall cavity with felt or something similar. This looks like a easier way to get built in shelves. I would need to fabricate my own mirror or picture with a locking mechanism to keep my kids from opening it, which is the only bummer.

Not a bad execution of a very old idea but why do they have to call everything gun related "tactical"?
Do I need to finish up the installation with tactical screws and a tactical mirror|

Since most houses are wired differently, why not get an empty service panel. Install it in a wall and lock it. How often do thieves go around flipping breakers or checking service panel locations. I've seen them in living rooms, garages, master bedrooms, closets, outside. Just pick a logical spot and install. Cover with paint and done.
11/12/2012 7:35:27 AM EDT
[#26]
But those electrical panels are expensive in larger sizes. It would make sense for a pistol but for rifles the panel would be huge and expensive.

[#27]
Got a welder?

Can you cut a straight line?

Do you know how a hinge works?

Steel>That

I know people aren't as skilled as others, or have the time/money to sit and do this, but even asking a weld shop to make one seems like a better investment.  I know I could make something similar our of steel for about the same price. And with a lock.

What is marketed these days really brings out the laziness of people sometimes. The only thing nice about the plastic is the weight. And if you did have a fire, you will have a bunch of ABS dipped guns, if they make it at all.

I had one similar to that but with a digital key pad, Think payphone keypad, I put it in my master bedroom closet. Close at hand, virtually invisible behind the hanging closes, and same from the kids. I moved and didn't rip it out of the wall, wish I did. I have a big gun safe now but I was thinking about another one of these for the bedroom.
